ACME.... Sucks...

Acme, in Cali, that sells all the ABS headliners, sunshades, door panels, seat kits, etc...

I have repeatedly asked them for samples larger than a postage stamp, offered to pay, asked for them when I bought their products ($700 worth) and they never complied... I would even pay extra, so they don't care...

After spending $700, now I have a T-Top Headliner and Sunshades that don't really match... I inquired about getting some "naked" ones (no headliner material), they said sure! For the same price... So I'll just take what I got, get them recovered in the material I like...

My PMD Seat set... I thought the camel velour was a nice match, so I asked for a big sample when I ordered the T-top headliner, of course, they didn't send it... Now that I have a big sample (the seat set), even though it's a nice color, It doesn't match (to my liking) my beechwood color... I asked for different headliner material with that order, they didn't bother...

So after $700+, I've got a t-top headliner and sunshades that don't match & a PMD seat kit not to my liking, all cuz they wouldn't send big samples.

They suck.

Re: ACME.... Sucks...

that's unfortunate that you got burned. you would have been best to get the parts recovered from the start and if your parts were too bad to do that you should have found used ones. with the exception of headliner boards which can be hard to find the other items are available in abundance for very cheap.

I was blissfully ignorant of ACME as an auto parts supplier. But thanks for the warnings.

Re: ACME.... Sucks...

I too have had the same problem getting fabric samples, as the OP stated. Plus, when you DO get someone on the phone, their "tone" is as if the office trashcan just caught fire and they need to flee! Make me wonder two things, 1 How do they stay in business and 2 Are they making a profit?

Re: ACME.... Sucks...

Just registered... so that I can tell the world about my recent experience with ACME.

I recently ordered the following through Rockauto; Headliner, door panels, and seat covers.

The headliner (in black) seems to be fine. I haven't attempted to install it yet... more on that when I attempt it.

However, the door panels and seat covers did not pass the initial inspection straight out their respective boxes. The door panels has a horizontal black "leather" vinyl strip that separates the upper and lower materials. The vinyl stip of material has the most crooked sticking I've ever seen... it's horrible. And, the overall pattern doesn't match my originals in many ways. Not please.

The seat covers overall seem ok. I mean... the stitching seems straight. But the material used has a pattern to it. And they installed it in a way that isn't symmetrical from one side to the other. So, it look weird.

So...

Since I live 5 miles away from them ( I live in Long Beach, CA). I decided to call them and ask if I could come by with my original OEM upholstery (bring my car) and their products to show them the differences. I thought, this would be very helpful and would probably be well received from any company interested in improving their products. Well... I couldn't have been more wrong. It was an adamant "NO! We are closed to the public". I tried to reason by asking "wouldn't you like to see the OEM products compared to yours". "maybe help improve the final product"....? "I though it was be helpful to receive direct feedback from one of your paying costumers". The answer; "NOPE, No thank you. We are closed to the public"!

Wow...

Re: ACME.... Sucks...

They are probably just a distributor and the product is made in China...

Maybe. But it's entirely possible that it's made right here in Long Beach, Ca. There are many things coming from oversea that are good. There are many things that come from the USA that are not. I've been burned more often using a "local" business or "made in the USA" than I have with an overseas product.

Either way it doesn't matter "where" it comes from. The origin of a product does not determine the overall quality of products or services. What determines a good product is how the company is managed.

ACME made it very clear today. They do not care what there costumers wants. They don't want to hear about the issues of the products they are offering. When I called their "customer service line" to establish a relationship and offer my car and my time to help them only to be denied, they made it very clear they do not want any help. She literally hung up on me.

I hope to find a better company out there providing a better product and customer services. And... if that's from another country... well... so be it. It is what it is...
