Hawks Third Gen...not happy
Just wanted to post a why im not happy about the service of hawks third gen. I bought the radiator wind spoiler thing from them, because the price they had listed was awesome. It was something like $3X.00, so i ordered it. The shipping took a while, but it was because i ordered it while the place was closed for the holiday, so not really their fault. I get the confirmation email see that the shipping will be determined and added to my bill. That was the first problem, no where on their site did they have a way to calculate shipping, but i said whatever i need the part.
So to sum up why im angry; they didnt tell me how much shipping was going to be before i submitted my order. Long time to ship. 53 dollars for a piece of plastic, and they couldn’t include a couple new screws so i don’t have to use the old crappy hardware.
Im glad i have the part i need, but i will probably not buy from them again.

Re: Hawks Third Gen...not happy
The shipping CAN be determined, if the supplier (Hawk's) has their system set up correctly & uses the calculation tables supplied by UPS/FedEx etc.
Last time I bought something where the shipping couldn't be told to me before hand, I paid more for shipping than the item (not Hawk's) and it was only like 1/2 lb & 3" square!
After that experience, I NEVER order anything without knowing the full cost ahead of time. Which means.....No buying from Hawk's!
And here I am, shopping for a new hood. I know who is NOT getting my order now.

Re: Hawks Third Gen...not happy
yeah i wanted a couple of those rear hatch strut caps, used for like 5 bucks. i was like alright sweet, pretty low price, so i ordered them and shipping ended up being like 15 bucks for a box that was WAY to big for the little strut covers. i would have been happy with a little box with the covers wrapped in a couple papper towels stuffed into a small box. not much rattling in a small box stuffed with paper towels. so when i got it i took it to USPS cause the post office is a rocks throw from my house. shipping for THAT box would have been 7 bucks for priority mail!! the box 'I' would have chosen would have been like 4 and some change. so all in all i got the whole thing for like 18 bucks, that i could have saved by going to a junk yard and paying a dollar or 2.
oh and while installing them i broke a clip off
that was my fault though.

You know you could call them up and order over the phone, then ask for a shipping quote.

Besides...Not everyone can call. Minority yes, but still.....
Re: Hawks Third Gen...not happy
Hey guys, in response to camaro1185, UPS charges by dimensional weight, not actual weight of the item. For example if the item weighs 2lbs, but the box measures out to 6lbs, they charge you for the 6lbs. So that is why it cost $15.00 to ship the air dam to CT. We have several locations on our web site that says to call for quote or email. And yes we were closed but instead of you being unhappy, we would have preferred you waited and called us for a quote when we returned. It would have shipped in the same amount of time.
As far as having an automatic shipping manager, because of the wide variety of parts we carry and wide variety of large dimensional items, we think it is better for the customer that we don't have that because then the customer would have to pay shipping on each individual item. With the way we calculate it now, if we can ship orders freight or in a bulk box, we do so and in return saves money for our customers.
As far as shipping small items in smaller boxes, we have certain items that are small that we ship in boxes we purchase that are able to be used for other items that may be a little larger but still consider small. This has prevented the smaller items from getting lost in the mail and by UPS. We want to ensure our customers receive their items.
As always with any questions regarding shipping, we can be reached by phone from 9am-5pm est M-F (we do take a lunch from 12pm-1pm daily) and by email. So always feel free to reach us.
Thanks,
Hawks Third Generation

Re: Hawks Third Gen...not happy
Yes you are confused. It was 53 dollars total for the air dam and the shipping.

Wow. Some people can't be pleased. I would EXPECT to pay AT LEAST that much to have an air dam shipped. And I am just an hour and a half away from Easley, SC! Would you rather drive down there and get it yourself?
Just be glad you've got a place like Hawk's to provide you with these parts and quit whining over $15. I usually don't get so defensive on issues like this, but COME ON!!

Are you really crying over $15 shipping on an air dam from SC to CT?

I was stating that EVERY other parts site tells you what you are going to pay before you even give your credit card number, i wonder what makes Hawks Third Gen so special that after ordering a part, we have to call/email to get a shipping price. Whats the point of ordering online if you have to call for a shipping quote. That extra step should not be necessary.
And yes i am very glad there is a place like Hawks to order these parts, my car now runs much cooler on the highway due to the air dam.

Yes, this is the vendor review area, but a BAD review ... especially when it is not clear (you made it sound like $53 shipping, which WOULD be cause for complaint) ... can cause a lot of damage (as evidenced here) to a business.
I'm just saying ... before you go and post a complaint for the WHOLE board to see, make sure it is worth complaining about.

Re: Hawks Third Gen...not happy
It's just like Bruce said, it's all UPS and not them. If you're going to get mad at someone, get mad at UPS for charging for the box size, not the weight of the item.
I sent a set of door panels to someone, the standard ones not the deluxe ones that weighed a whopping 5 lbs and cost me 30 bucks to ship them UPS since they were considered oversize due to the box size, not the weight.

Your saying that the initial price was awesome, but then complain about shipping delays due to holidays, and the total price sucked.
These are the people you should be mad at:
1. The government for making these stupid holidays that allows most businesses to be closed
2. The shipping company (UPS) for charging your shipping by the size, we don't want them to make any money on something that takes up more room than weight.
3. And yourself for being impatient, for timing the order on a holiday and saying "whatever" because you wanted it anyways. When you clicked submit with your order you agreed to Hawks shipping policy...which is spelled out pretty clearly on his site.
http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/po...dshipping.aspx
Your given the option of getting a shipping quote before placing your order, but honestly $15 is pretty average on most anything shipped by UPS.
It's ok to give your opinion of Hawks and suggestions for site improvement by adding a shipping calculator. But your tone indicates that you were ripped off....which clearly isn't the case here.
BTW....most parts like that assume your are re-using your current hardware. GM nor any aftermarket repro company supplies screws to remount the part.....that's like buying a fender or bumper cover and bitching because they didn't give you new bolts with it. Find a lowes or homedepot and get what you need.

Re: Hawks Third Gen...not happy
it does say CALL FOR SHIPPING PRICE before ordering and like stated above be clear on your review I have dealt with HAWKS before i called to make sure or email about shipping just like anywhere else you have to add in the shiooing cost to see where it is cheaper. Just be more clear if you have a complaint and 15 bucks for the air dam not bad at all.
Re: Hawks Third Gen...not happy
While not directly related to the issues with Hawk's, I just thought I'd mention that if you're worried about getting "stung" by surprising and outrageous shipping amounts, ask anyone here on the boards that have dealt with GM Parts Direct! That outfit definitely recoups their money through shipping costs, while listing ridiculously cheap prices for the actual part. They'll even charge you separate shipping amounts for a bunch of small items that are all shipped in the same little box!
Oh yeah, and don't forget Summit's "free shipping" that always includes an $11 "handling" charge. Even if you purchase a 99 cent o-ring, you still pay $11 "handling" for their supposed "free shipping". Oh well, at least when I bought some misc. gaskets from them last week I got a box big enough to put a V8 cylinder head in, so I got a nice, big box for that $11.

Btw, the original bolts that GM used to mount the lower air dam are chintzy, self-tapping ones, and once the holes get a little rusty they don't tighten back up worth a damn. I ended up using bolts with nuts and lockwashers, and it's stayed on there nice and tight ever since.

Re: Hawks Third Gen...not happy
Hey guys this really sucks for all of us. Hawks should be able to charge more just for having to come on the internet and defend themselves everytime something is not just perfect.
Whether this guy is right or wrong is not the point. The point is that the time it took to make this negative post the issue could have been prevented by making a simple phone call. So they were closed wait 5 minutes. God forbid leave a message. Before and after the fact.
We are so spoiled as a society. We have fast food and thats not good enough we needed fast food with a drive through and order by number on top of that.
Long before Al Gore invented the internet there was a saying about pleasing all of the people all of the time. It aint going to happen. Think about that.
The internet and these very forums are so rampant that you cant even take a whiz without someone knowing, someone complaining and someone else posting apoll about the arc length of the stream. Its flat out ridiculous. All of the great info is often overshawdowed by the ability for silly things like this to get people in a pinch.
I am not affiliated with Hawks, never bought from them but I think I will and will do so with a lesson learned from camaro1185 to put the keyboard away and pick up the phone and ask the man on the other end a simple question. For that I say thanks for the heads up.
We all get to be tough guys behind a keyboard. That cracks me up. Somehow along the way as we "got tough" we forgot how to dial a phone and ask simple questions. We want the speed, price of a 24 hour flea market with the service and attention of an old school general store. Again, Not going to happen.
I mean no disrespect to the upset fellow (camaro1185) but this dribble about what ifs and what is reasonable could be debated forever. Did you think shipping was free before entering your CC# and hitting submit.
Patience is a virtue and unfortunately as I indicated above none of us can wait five minutes for anything....its now...now...now and then complain thats the American way now. If its not stated and we make assumtions we set ourselves open to get burned.
If they overcharged you shame on them. That being relative since shipping was not stated we as a group ask that they grab the part chuck in in the first box they see toss it on the truck as it speeds away all at the lowest price so you can be happy. Something has to give. I bet your not complaining because you did not pay sales tax from the online purchase and the gas in your car to drive to a parts store to buy the part not to mention the time and the fact there likely is not a store that sells the part. See, something has to give. Slow down, ask a question or two and life will be just fine.
A wise man once told me that "Assumption is the mother of all Fu## ups......... and the internet is the father"
God bless guys - Cant we all just play nice, enjoy third-gens, football season a cold beer and chill the hell out?

Re: Hawks Third Gen...not happy
I ordered a couple little parts from Bruce through email. First the quote, then I ordered. When my statement came, found out they charged me $5.00 over the quote. So I emailed again attaching the original quote and the bill and Bruce replied stating he would refund the 5 bucks. Well that NEVER happened. And that was the end. It was just 5 dollars, but I thought I would let him know. I didn't feel it was worth my time to pursue it more.
Then again, it was my wife's hard earned money!

i was disappointed with my first hawk's order that just arrived. all my items looked even better than on their webpage, and they arrived in a reasonable amount of time. but they were not wrapped in the dog food bags mentioned in the other thread. I wonder if I could get a refund?
