JEGS....not transparent about shipping.
First off, I love Jegs. I have used them for years and will use them in the future. I hope this is an isolated incident.
However, on March 1st, I ordered a set of AFR Heads from them BECAUSE their estimated shipping date was the best date, March 28th. As soon as I clicked buy, and they received their money, I got an email stating that the estimated shipping date is now May 30th. They date never changed on the website page. It was 3/28 until 3/28 and then it changed to April 4th. They already knew that this was not a correct date. It was very deceiving to potential customers. I then ordered a set from another big company and received them within 3 days.
I then called Jegs to cancel my order. I explained to them the reason why and they did not seem concerned one bit when I brought up the shipping date problem.
I know that everything being shipped is being delayed, but, be truthful upfront an use the most correct date. I have also ordered a set of roller rockers from them with an estimated ship date of April 4. We'll see how this order turns out.

If you are in the retail chain, there is nothing anyone can do right now. One company can be providing great service and the next day something beyond control causes a major problem. Where we used to be 4 or 5 weeks delivery a year ago we are happy to get them in 16 weeks. Last 3 months some things went to 37 weeks. We have one line that went to 18 months.
Where we had instant gratification, patience and pre-planning are an asset.

Most of those calculated shipping dates that you see on a company's page (before you buy) are based on wherever the IP address for your computer is pinging from. If you're browsing on your cell phone or using any kind of VPN or modern anti-virus software oftentimes your IP address is shown to be coming from a location that isn't actually your location. This can make for some interesting shipping quotes.
When you actually type in your shipping address during the purchasing process is when the real date should populate.

They are probably dropped shipped from AFR and they likely had the issues.

Same thing happened to me at Summit.
Ordered pistons at the end of February and their international shipping date was next day.
Place the order and the ship date jumps to April 14. Then two weeks later it moves further to April 30. Two weeks later and it's back to April 14.
I can hardly wait for April 14 to learn what the next ship date will be.
Such is the way it is.

I believe it's called "bait and switch". But this is with delivery dates...

While Jegs and Summit are the primary targets for the hobby, I'm seeing this exact thing with multiple parts sources, not just automotive. Industrial suppliers are dealing with the same thing. OP's concern with the date shown for a new purchaser as April is shady looking but everyone is giving out dates that can't actually promise

We changed our website to displaying only products that are in our procession or at least have a tracking number on. If it shows "in stock" it means it's at our building. Really limits what we can sell but better than telling people 2 weeks turned into 6 months. Current supply issues are killing productivity nationwide.

Re: JEGS....not transparent about shipping.
Supply chain problems for just about any item you could name are prob going to be with us for the next year or two.
Before I click 'buy,' I'll call whatever company I happen to be dealing with and ask a real person if what I want is actually in stock and ready to ship. That has caused me to occasionally have to find another source other than my preferred one for whatever I'm looking for (not just auto parts), sometimes at a higher price. But in all the years I've been buying all kinds of stuff online, only 1 time did I get surprised with a backorder.

As others said, that just the way it goes. If its not in stock then any estimated ship date is about as reliable as McDonalds icecream machine. Esp if its drop shipped from vendor.
also note AFR is/was in process of changing foundries and getting castings is a long way out now

Re: JEGS....not transparent about shipping.
I'm expecting much the same from Summit on the 11th. That's when my pistons are expected to arrive in their warehouse.
Won't surprise me in the least if they get pushed back a month or two. Hopefully not into October.
