Question on Vortec HSR setup
Question on Vortec HSR setup
I have a 92 B4C/1LE with weaknut 305 TPI/T-5. I was thinking of trying to build a somewhat cheap motor, 350 with stock style rebuild, rebuilt stock vortec heads, Vortec stealth ram (when it comes out next month), mild, streetable cam (any suggetions?), longtubes, injectors if needed (22lb from a 350? LS1 28lb?), and a prom if needed as well. I was hoping for close to 300 hp at the crank.
Does this sound reasonable? Any other suggestions? Am I an idiot? Im so, please tell me.
Thanks!

Are you sure you're only looking for 300hp at the crank? That's a low goal, easily attainable with the vortec heads and a very streetable cam in your 305. I don't think you'd need a stealth ram for 300hp; aftermarket runners and a tad of portwork will do just fine and allow you to retain stump pulling torque and decent top end. Ofcourse a tune is necessary with any major mods...
If you're absolutely set on building a 350, the car will be as docile as a kitten: very pleasant on the street, hwy, everywhere. With bolt-ons, and a good cam, 300 crank hp in an L98 is cake (tuning implied here as well).

costwise or powerwise?
stock your car is supposed to be what, 230hp, 300tq, in good running condition/state of tune. its tough to just estimate a number hypothetically with several factors governing the outcome, but here goes
longtube headers, full catback exhaust ~25hp
intake runners ~10-15hp
vortec heads ~ 30-40hp depending on portwork and the aforementioned upgrades
on a budget, an LT1 cam would probably suffice for the 300hp goal, but you could definitely go more aggressive for an additional 20-25hp
all of these numbers are ofcourse rough, theoretical guesstimates, and the power gains will not be there in such magnitude without prom tuning

Just to add tothispost but what kind of numbers would a cam like this do in a L98/Vortec/HSR combo. Heads would be ported with a good 250+cfm flow.
cam is a n20-supercharger cam from cmotorsports.com.. Custom Comp XE grind im told.
TS-221XL 221/230 duration, .542"/.544", 114lsa
Looking for a good 340RWHP..feasible w/ tuning? minus poweradders
