Installation of the HSR experience...
Ok. For the past 3-4 days i have been waiting and waiting for this mechanic to get my HSR installed. Since i am now on the 4th day, for those of you who care i will post my recent experiences/history with getting this HSR installed on a 1989 Camaro IROC 350. (I appologize about the long post)
We start off on Wednesday, when i drop off the car. Ok now here is friday... 2 days after i dropped the car off to him and he said it would be done by the weekend....
Friday: As i figured the mechanic ran into some problems. Such as needing a new distributor cap and some parts that summit didnt bother telling me that i needed. He has gotten as far as getting the fuel rails and fuel lines ran. We ran into a problem today (which i knew we would), and the problem is the stock fuel lines will not reach to the back of the intake. So i am going to have to wait and get new fuel lines made, etc, etc... He said it should be done by Monday. This mechanic is VERY smart and has been one of my dads friends for awhile and i know he knows what he is doing. He told me when its all done and over with i will be happy that it took this long. He said he wants to do it right, and to get everything perfect, it takes time. It is going to end up costing me about $600 for installation, including labor. But today he told me after its all done he will probably end of giving us a discount. (Thank ***) I finally got to see it on the car for the first time and man does it look sweet.
Monday(Today): It took him all day today to get the fuel lines and i know he could of got them ordered locally. I know for a fact though he is the best guy to be doing this. Anyways, i just heard from my dad at around 3:00pm and he said the mechanic just got the new fuel lines in and he is going to start on it fresh tommorrow. If we dont run into anymore problems it "should" be done tommorrow. I've already paid for an arm and a leg to get this SOB installed. If i don't see a big difference in this i will be so pissed. Also, the mechanic did say he would probably give us a discount on it because Summit is the ones that didnt tell us everything that we were going to need. They told me what i ordered would be enough but i figured it wouldn't. Anyways, enough blabbing, ill keep everyone up to date.

Nice story and all but it isn't Summits fault you needed a few extra things. They don't even make the HSR, they are just a re-seller. Take the distributor cap for example. How in the world would Summit know you needed a new one just to do an intake job? They wouldn't.
Now, about the intake making you car faster.......it may but only if you have mods needing a bigger intake. On a stock 350 I wouldn't expect much.

if you got the whole setup with the computer and all you should be happy but you'll definately need to do more work later. Heads, cam, and so to make it worth your wild. If you look at my web page you can see my setup. I have a 383 HSR. I dropped 2 secs in the 1/8 from a 305TBI. I was running mid to low 10 with the 305 now running 8.5 with the 383. Thats with Kumho 711 so if i ran with better tire could drop some more. I also have to tune the car better but I'm definately happy with the system.
I agree you can't blame Summit. If you go to Holey's web page it tell you what you need. And in the instructions with the system also have a very detailed instructions on what comes with the system and whats needed.

Regardless, looks like a stock engine really needs some big stall on the converter, or low gears on a manual, to get it through the traps quicker.

Brad posted them. I'm pretty sure that post is a sticky. The TPI intake dies up top. The HSR still does, but not nearly as bad. It's actually pretty good. That's why there is such a substantial gain.

I didn't realize it would cost that much to install the HSR.
I did mine in a day with half of the day running around gathering up fuel line adaptors, vacuum fittings and a radiator hose.

i agree with zepher. it takes longer going to pick up the fittings than it does to install it.
hey firedawg how high do you rev your 383. also are you running 6" rods or 5.7

I've got it up to about 6000-6200. Not exactly sure what the optimal is yet. Still have to get the tuning right. As of right now i should be runnig very low 12 and soon high 11 i hope. Won't be touching the car for 2 years atleast. I'm in Japan right now and playing with my Skyline now.
I'm running 6.0 inch rods. any more questions just ask

Is it a GT-R? Or your normal every day skyline?

need to get off the subject of the Skyline if you want pics or info on the car you can email me at firedawg225@yahoo.com. If we keep talking about the skyline they will lock the thread. It's not a GT-R don't have 20,000 for a car. It's a GTS25T. Has the RB25DETT motor and turbo. everything is the same as the GT-R exept it's not 4 wheel drive.

well i hope you like it when its finished. expect an entirely different car though. youre going from a very lowend torquey tpi intake to the high rpm stealthram.
it shouldnt cost that much to install this thing (the fabbed fuel lines, if braded, with the correct fittings do cost about $100 though). was there a reason you didnt want to try and tackle the install yourself?

Its been done for awhile now i just havnt had time to post it on here. I notice a HUGE difference on the street and in general but i only shaved about .3 off of my drag times. I didnt want to do it myself because i already saw/heard about all the problems people were having and i dont have the time to go through all that and i always like having my stuff professionally installed. Here is a picture of it below. I appologize for the picture being so big. :P

nice job did mine myself but did alot of research and bought everything in advanced to give me time for everythign i needed. Also had to wait for engine parts so that gave me some time also. here are some pics of mine.
I dropped 2 secs almost in the 1/8. went from a low to mid ten with a TBI to a 8.4 with the 383 stealthram.

If you go my way your looking at some pretty good amount of money. (installed by myself and a friend) here is a price break down of what I spent.
Chevy SBC 350 block, bored, freeze plugs, cam bearings, free
Holley Stealthram w/30lb injectors, C950 computer, harness $2200
Eagle 383 balanced rotating assemble w/SRP pistons
and 6.0 rods $1200
Comp Cam Custom grind cam $260
Alumnium Heads 64CC angle plugs $1000
Timing cover $50
Lokar cables, bracket, and oil stick $200
Misc parts and gaskets about $400 to $500
k&n filter $40 i think
ARP bolts $200
Valve covers $100
March pulley and brackets #22061 451.00
Parts from my other new motor
Comp cams Pro magnium roller rockers $250
Fuel lines AN6 w/fittings $100
Balancer $100
Total i sent around 8000 to 9000. but this is almost everything i wanted. you can make it alot cheaper by not buying the flashy stuff.
Now if you just run the intake and runners your looking at 600 i believe. hope this helps if you have any questions let me know or anyone else on here
