Source for modified LT1 intakes?
I am looking for a modified LT1 intake for my 91 vette.
LT1intake.com isn't producing the intakes, and I can't seem to find another source. Anyone know where I might look? Been keeping an eye on E-bay, but no luck.
In the interest of full disclosure, I am planning on using a 4.09 rear gear in my dana 44, which should work pretty well with the power band created by the LT1 intake or the mini-ram. The tall 6th gear in the ZF 6 speed makes it livable on the highway as well. I'm a broke bastard and spending $900+ on the mini-ram isn't an option. I can't find any other intake options out there for me that are less than $1,000. The HSR won't clear the hood on a Corvette so I can't use it. Any idea's or constructive criticism is appreciated.

Look up Grumpyvette, here on 3rd gen. I think he has modded a HSR to fit his Corvette.
I don't see anything in your sig regarding internal engine mods. If you are running a stock L98 (other than the nitrous), you aren't going to get the maximum gains from the intake - you'll run out of cam before you get into the intake's best power range. A cam and some head / internal work will really compliment that intake swap nicely.
You're also going to have to work tuning a new intake. The HSR on a stock engine will tend to go lean on the top end w/o tuning to increase the fuel. I'm trying to get a CC305 cammed, HSR'd L-98 dialed in myself (at least you have the PLX in - mine's still in the box). If got a load of $ in tuning tools, so factor that into your calculations.
If you're really needing to lo-buck it, you might want to scrounge e-bay for a 52mm TB (assuming you don't have one already) and some big tube runners (Edelbrock, TPIS, or ASM). Port the lower intake (or have it extrude honed) and get the upper plenum matched to everything. You could also look for a Super Ram, but I hear that they are a PITA.

The HSR is a great intake, no doubt about it. It's just not my thing is all. Eventually, as time and cash permits, I will build something that will take full advantage of the LT1 style intake. If I modify a HSR to work well with what I have right now, I'll have to find another intake down the road. Instead of buying 2 intakes, I'm just going to get the intake that will work with the end combo, instead of the intake that will work with what I have right now.
Regardless, the LT1 intake will be a huge gain over the stock system.
I burn my own chips, so tuning is taken care of.
The super ram is spendy, but any intake option under $500 I would consider.
Thanks for the advice.

I think i'm gonna go with a miniram. it's "lt1 style", but without the headaches.. I followed a lot of members, like tpi_roc very closely with the LT1 setups and I'm just not impressed with the remote mounting of the thermostat, dizzy angle issues, sealing problems with some hads (sportsman II for example), etc.

just get a 1/4 " added around the water coolant area on the intake. it cost me like $45 and if the person who welds it is a skilled welder, you shouldn't need to have the intake milled. you may want to put new thread sealant on the nipples afterword due to the heat (i had a very small leak around one of the nipples) and so far no problems with my lt1 intake and sportsman 2 head combination. sure the remote t stat can cause some headaches, but with some clever thinking there are ways to make it not stick out like a sore thumb.
i will say that for a high hp high boost setup, i would pay the extra to get a miniram.
ps: you will find the perfect vette, just take your time!

I hear you on the 91 thing. I had a 92 that was fairly heavily modded (475 RWHP / 620 RWTQ on a 100 shot) prior to this 91. I sold it just because I wanted an SBC platform to work on. I looked for close to a year before I found a 91 that met my criteria.
I wanted the newer body style, and the older engine, just like you. It had to be a ZF6, it had to be low miles, needed black or grey interior, and could be any color other than white. I finally found it on autotrader in Florida, I lived in Utah at the time. I got the loan, and flew myself and my Mom out to Florida to look at the car. The car was as advertised and I brought it home.
The moral of the story is don't settle! It's out there man, just keep looking!

The lt1 intake works really good on a C4 Corvette, and the accessory location makes it easy to install the remote thermostat housing in front of the intake and use the stock radiator hose.
