hsr questions

well i decided that my next mod should be upgrading stock tpi and after researching i found the hsr to be the cheapest way to upgrade the stock tpi. I did some searching and found that i have three questions to ask about the hsr that i couldnt find searching or reading stickys. I kno they probaly been asked before but here they are.

1.other then the intake manifold, plenum, and fuel rail what parts will i need to suscessfully install hsr and fire it up and go?

2. summit says id have to drill holes in the intake for it to work on my l98 heads is this true?

3. how hard is it to install (time?), how is the performance and looks, and what problems did you run into when installing it. pics would be great.

i havent installed one yet but go to Stealthram.com for alot of your questions...you can buy these bolt angle spacers that allow the intake bolts to work with the later style thirdgen heads

i dont think you have to drill new holes

not too much else to it other than the fuel rails, modify your tb or get a new Throttlebody, fuel line modifications are needed, and possibly a smaller distrib cap...some advice would be to get a 58mm TB and upgrade your injectors to atleast 24 lb per hr and buy some headers

ive read of guys gaining 100+hp from this intake and headers alone...the l98 has the same manifolds as the 305s so they are increda restrictive...open up that intake and exhaust and you are flowing much more air...pretty simple stuff

Manifold, plenum, fuel rails is it really. They say you cannot use an in-cap coil. You will need miscellaneous vaccuum barbs and new vaccuum lines, fuel fittings and hose. It all depends on what kind of fuel lines you want and how you want the lines routed. Your 4 center intake bolts are at different angles than the heads. Those bolts are only for the EGR port (that HSR doesn't have) so I just installed the bolts the best I could without modification.

It isn't a lot of work, maybe six hours tops but it's taken me three weeks to get all the small stuff rounded up. My TB's throttle lever interfered with the driver's fuel rail so I had to take it to the machine shop to grind it down. You will need a new swivel thermostat housing because the stocker will point directly to the Driver's valve cover. Overall, I prolly spent $200 in addition to the HSR and fuel rails. HSR is easy to work with and looks sharp plus anything has to be better than the stock TPI.

Check where your brackets locate on the manifold.
I had to buy a new alternator mount because the 87' mounted at the passenger side runner tube. Wouldn't go on the HSR.
Water neck like stated above can give you some grief if your angle won't match the hose. Re routing of the wiring harness to hide them under the plenum can also take some time if you want to make it pretty.
Look into getting a different regulator if you can afford it, many have had problems with the holley adjustable unit not cooperating (Inclusive).
Plan out your vacuum lines to be sure you will have the right fittings to tie everything in like you want. Get new injector o-rings and also for the fuel rail fittings.
Put sealer on the intake bolts!!!!
