I am looking for an intake and am wondering what the best one would be. I would like a miniram but those are too expensive. I was looking at HSR but I dont know how it would work out because of the egr restriction If there was a way to incorporate one i would be sold. $299 for manifold and $175 for fuel rails is the cheapest. I am running a stock l98 with less than 10000 on short block Spun bearing on original and just threw a reman together for 1500 installed. I am planning on building it into a 383 with heads and a mild cam. I live in illinois and still want it to be legal. I guess if anyone knew of a way to incorporate an egr on the stealth ram and if would clear a stock iroc hood. Also if it would be alright on a stock motor for awhile before i pull the motor and machine it.

Superram all the way bud!!! I just finshed my install today and was well worth it.It pulls harder from 3500 to 5500 and to redline. The intake is a little more money but it is legal and works great with bigger motors and cam/heads.
I was thinking that too, but i was wondering if there was away to put an egr on the hsr i live in illinois and i dont know if i could pass emissions without egr.Although i did pass with a bad maf and a weak injector this spring in 1 try

I also have to deal w/ emissions where I'm at, & I own a StealthRam as well. What I was thinking of doing was to take a look at the remote EGR pieces used on 'Vettes to see if there was any way to mock something like that up. I've spent a fair bit of time speaking with the inspectors at the (state-run) testing centers, & they've told me that they use the underhood sticker to see that all of the pieces are in place, not that they're functional...
And yes, each time I've had it tested, my car has passed the sniffer with ease, even when it failed the visual.
(I suspect that the engine's state of tune is generally more important than any little piece of equipment, although I'm willing to hear evidence to the contrary...)

Thats awesome! I was researching remote egr stuff too, but since i have a few members already tell me they passed the sniffer without egr than no need for egr here. In IL all they do is sniff no visual so i should be ok with correct tuning to the prom.
thanks for the input!

andfar as $$ is concerned I dont think you can beat a stealthram I picket up a legit half a second over stock tpi on a really mild combo
So IL is doing away with testing ODBI cars? Thats cool! I was planning on ripping that AIR crap off too. So did u burn your own chip or did u buy 1 from someplace else? I was planning on starting to burn my own, but dont have the cash since im buying all this stuff first( HSR rails AFPR TPIS 58mm TB and fuel lines with all sensors attached is running me $650 which is good I guess seeing how the TB from TPiS is $500!!!!!!!!!!!!!

go hsr all the way you wont pick up anything tho if you dont have headers. Get headers and you will gain about 9 tenths at the track.

The information I've read is that a 48mm TB is adequate up to some pretty hefty hp numbers so you may want to spend the money elsewhere or save it for your future build. At the same time, there seems to be a lot of people who run larger units, including myself with a 58mm Accel. I bought a 52mm before I learned much about our cars, then later traded even for the 58mm so I plan to use it. Most people would probably agree that you could wait on this if you have a stock TB (which should be very cheap & easy to find if you don't have one), at least until the 383ci & heads. That being said, there was someone on the classifieds selling new TB's for a good price. I don't know what brand and can't remember the exact price but it seems like it was in the $200 - $250 range. You can find good deals on used parts here, ebay & camaroz28.com if you have a little spare time to browse the ads. Just make sure you get the correct one for your application, there are differences between later years & vettes and thirdgens.Originally Posted by cpullma2

He's right - I've read just recently that a stock TB will flow enough air to support somewhere in the range of 470 HP, so there's no sense in spending money there until you're running a really beefy engine...Originally Posted by shawn87gta

Yea i see your point, Personally I would not spend more than $250 on a TB.
BUT i am reccieving the TPIS TB with my HSR . I am spending $650 on the whole package, I just wanted to point out that the TPIS TB cost $500 from Myron. I was just pricing out the deal i am getting So I think iam getting well worth the money im putting into it

As long as there is no visual test, you are fine without the egr and air pump.
I passed the sniffer in TN with the 383,miniram and comp 230-236 114 lsa cam. You could probably do it with the 112 or 110 lsa cam also with some tuning. Run the engine to 200-205 degrees for the test(change the fan on temps) and retard the initial timing back to 0 degrees just for the test and you will pass.
The cats are the key to passing the test. I had a y-pipe with 2 cheap $50(each) 3" ebay cats that I used just for testing once a year. After the test, I put on a regular y-pipe with no cats. It can be cheap too, take it to a muffler shop and have them do a y-pipe with 2.5 inch crappy bends and some ebay 2.5 inch cats just for the test.

Yea thats what I was thinking. I just installed the flowmster cat back and a new (autozone $80) cat and my gf is buying me hooker 2460 headers for xmas and i will need to price a custom y pipe or buy the hooker 1 for $200. When i install the intake and exhaust im going to rip the AIR and egr off also going to need a chip which sux but needs to be done

mine runs great without a chip although with a chip it would be faster for sure. Im running hsr 58mm tb slp headers, tb coolant bypass, no smog at all pipe going through cat, and ram air. ive done a few other mods like the trans but that doesnt matter on running. Other than running a little lean which i can turn my pressure up to solve when i get my gauge, she runs very smooth. I pretty much got the mods for the induction and trans done so when i build my 383 twin turbo i can just transfer the hsr and all over. Thats why i havent done a chip i will def need a chip after that.
