ignorant about lt1

all right as the title says im ignorant about lt1's and their abilty to be used with and l98 block. If there are posts that will help me please let me know i searched but could not find anything. Im looking to see if you can swap on a lt1 intake or lt4? or if you can just straight swap on their heads also with an intake? is this a viable cheap hp add? if it is how hp could i expect to gain? thanks all.

Re: ignorant about lt1

An LT1 intake (or LT4 for that matter) need to be "converted" to be able to be installed on an L98 block. Part of the conversion is adding ports to provide a coolant passage between the heads since these intakes don't have any coolant ports. They also have to be drilled for a distributor sine the LTx motors use the Opti-Spark behind the water pump. You can see what I'm talking about by visiting www.lt1intake.com

As for using the LTx heads on the L98, you'd be better off using an LT1 block, too. The coolant passages are the problem. Don't believe you'll be able to do this, at least not easily anyway.

If you're after the sequential injection part of the LT1 you have to use an LT1 harness and ECM (or the 411 LSx ECM and a conversion harness from someone like S10wildside)

Hope this info helps.

And remember - searching can be your best friend around here.

Yep, 92-97 is Gen II. Basically the same block as Gen I with some coolant passage (and maybe oiling) changes. Externally the block is the same as a late model Gen I roller block. Or the same as any Gen I block if you ignore the type of rear main seal. All bolt on accessories for a Gen II will fit on a Gen I block.
