I got my Eastwood powder coat system up and running finally, and after a few test pieces I feel Im ready to start coating some of the pieces on my car. Already started stripping my IROC wheels, and Im about to hopefully) get a Vortec HSR. I was curious as to what colors (or other metal finishes) yall have put on yours. Im trying to find a pic of what I want to do, I remember seeing it somewhere. It was like a silver/black vein base with a candy blue top coat, looked reaaaal slick.
EDIT: Found it, alone with some other topcoat colors. What chall think bout this?

I was thinking about doing mine black with red fins, but after seeing some of these textured/candy/translucent powders they have now, Im tempted to go a little more extravagant
yeah if you could get alittle more flash with it, try it out...it will definately set you apart from the crowd

ya I checked that site out a while back when I was first looking into it. Only real "colored" HSR is that lime green one. All others are either polished or cast satin. I was thinking about trying to get the candy blue to match the original blue the car was painted

That looks awesome! I love LD85s color scheme on the MR. Thats something I waned to go with, but I got steel heads and IMO alum. heads would look best with that configuration. Im thinking about doing some chrome VCs and the SR the silver vein with candy blue on top, and just leaving the block black. But that still leaves the heads (steel vortecs). I might end up doing them some kind of silver to match the block, just good ole hi-temp rattle can

I just installed my HSR this weekend and I ended up painting the base black, and the plenum black w/ the fins red! It looks fantastic. I'll try to get some pictures up soon!

That looks really good! I like how the theme flows across the valve covers, fuel rails and actual intake!Originally Posted by vernw

Thanks! Those are the Edelbrock cast aluminum valve covers w/o the Logo, approx. $85 from Summit. I thought they matched up pretty well myself!

damn nice setup there. Never had any problems with heat with those lights?
where are all the steel head'd motors??? Im thinking about PC'ing my heads gloss black, but not sure where to go from there with the intake. I might end up just using some rattle can silver on the block

No, the lights are actually a luminescent wire. When voltage is applied the wire glows, heat actually brightens it up a bit.Originally Posted by spills

Not real fancy. I polished the rails and the ribs on the MiniRam. I powder coated the intake and valve covers in Silver.
I have to say that the pics mseven posted look good.

Excuse the extremely dirty engine bay. That is on my list of to do's for the car, but here is how I painted my HSR I installed last weekend. Base is all black, and the top piece is black w/ red fins.

I just got my HSR yesterday from a guy on here, and Ive already got about 90% of the upper plenum polished, its lookin sick!! I gotta take it to work to buff out the minor scratches, but Im gonna powdercoat in between the fins on top black, the clear coat over the whole thing. Ima post some pics up when Im done, lookin good so far though
aight kids, my HSR is about complete!! THe more I thought about it, that silver vein with candy bluw would almost be "too-show" for me, it would seem out of place to me. I completely polished the top piece (came as cast originally) and PC'd inside the fins black, then put some Roseys clear over it so the polish wont oxidize, it looks nice! For the base, I used Eastwoods high gloss black. Then I went back with some Xtreme chrome and filled in the "Stealth Ram" lettering for a little more custom touch. I dont have pics yet, but I had to tell someone, I cant wait till its mounted!! Im gonna rattle can the heads and block tomorrow and hopefully have the longblock put together enough for a decent pic
Hey vernw, where'd you get that intake elbow and connector?

got the block painted and put everything together for a mockup shot. I was skeptical about this color scheme, but I think it turned out pretty decent.
