Porting HSR Base
I'm looking to enlarge the intake ports of the HSR base to atleast better match the 1205 gaskets. Looking at where I'll need to concetrate work I'm a little concerened over the amount of sealing material or "land" that will be left. How much is a safe amount? I'm at work and can't measure it but I remember it looking like there would be around x2 x2.5 the thickness of the rib between ports left. I mean thats the only thickness I can compare to, so say .350" of land to seal on?

Re: Porting HSR Base
dont take the center divider down too far, just concentrate on port height and widen the other side of the wall. While your at it, round off the top dividers where the plenum sits. I'd leave the middle divider as wide as the head ports center divider.
Also dont take the top of the port too high or else you'll be out of sealing room up top..unless you have one of the newest casting that can be matched to a 1206 as they have much more material on top.
I have the older 1205 max style and matched them to my AFR 195's which are close to a 1205. I dont have the pics i thought i did of my base, but i think my top port sealing surface is about .25" but i'd have to see about that. Gotta dig up any pics i have

Re: Porting HSR Base
Orr, thanks man. I ditched my 1206 heads and now have a set of Dart Pro1 Alum heads 1205 port heads. I didn't plan on touching the center dividers on the intake port side of the head, there doesn't seem to be much of anything that needs to be done there. I can't tell if I have a newer casting or not though. I bought mine from Summit about a month ago. With the gasket sharpie marked and scribed there just didn't look like much left, BUT it may only have been around .250" or so. Maybe thats okay. If you guys could dig up any pics that'd be great. OR, I'll just throw some pics up of what I have marked off thus far.
Viper, after last seasons disappointing results I plan on peeling the damn tires off the wheels this time on my next launch. I was PISSED at the track when I last went. 09' is going to be different....WAY different.

throw up some pics of what your looking at and i can definately tell if your ok or not
the new casting on the bottom of the manifold should read 2006 or newer i THINK. Let me see if i have that thread saved

check those pics comparing old and new base. See what yours looks like. with 1205 gasket laid on top, there should be tons of room left to go more if its newer casting
