Motor build questions
I Plan on building a 350 for my Iroc this summer and I want to stick with fuel injection, however I dont know what intake would be best. I really think that I like the First intake but I cannot find to much info on them. Other than that I was looking at the HSR but it does not seem to preform as well. I already have a sbc block with forged internals. i was also wondering about the cam and heads what would you guys sugges. And since I am going form a 305 to a 350 I know I need a new chip and it needs to be tuned for the new injection system. but what else will I need?
Thank you in advance.

Re: Motor build questions
What are your goals for the car? What powerband? Is this a daily driver? Is there a certain 1/4 time you're after? Need some details.

Re: Motor build questions
The car is going to be a daily driver. I would like it to make around 400whp. I guess in the 1/4 mile I would like to see low 12s. As far as the power band I would like it to make run to 6000 with out falling off like I see on a lot of dyno charts of the TPI.

Re: Motor build questions
I ran a 12.12 sec ET with whats in my signature. But I have a 395. For a 350, I think that you will need better heads and an HSR on your 350 to go in the low 12s. Look into the new AFR heads, I think that they are called Elimenators, or heads having 210 to 220 cc intake port volume. Also, clean up the HSR with some mild porting. For my 395, I did alot of porting on the HSR that I am currently installing.
What about the computer, and what about the intact track? What are you going to do there?

I think I am going to go with the FIRST injection set up, not that the HSR is bad but I talked to the guys and FIRST today they won me over. Thank you for the info on the heads ill look into the AFR heads for sure. As for the computer I know it needs a stock 350 chip then it needs a dyno tune right?

Re: Motor build questions
I don't have any first-hand experience with the FIRST setup, but from what I've read, it seems pretty stout. I also agree with doc on getting the AFR heads. You will need the memcal that goes into the ECU when upgrading from 305 TPI to 350, and with a nicely modded motor, I would recommend a dyno tune or possibly burning your own chip. A mail-order tune could get your new motor up and running temporarily, but as expensive as they are, I'd rather buy the chip burning hardware and go from there.

Re: Motor build questions
B.lane88 can simply purchase a Hypertech Memcal unit for an '88 350 TPI Automatic as a starting point for the computer.
B.lane88: If you go with the First intake manifold (base), what are you going to use on top of it? The factory style runners are too small in ID. Does the First came with large tube runners and its own large plenum?
Also, buy Ford's 24#/hr injectors along with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator (AFPR). You will find it necessary to adjust the fuel pressure for the proper AFR at full throotle. And a good fuel pressure gauge!

Ok the computer is out of the way.
as for the FIRST intake it comes as a complete system: throttle body, plenum, base, Runners, and fuel rail. Here is their website so you can check them out http://www.firstfuelinjection.com/
Thank you for the info on the fuel injectors and fuel pressure regulator I was wondering about all of that.
Now on to the cam I know a lot of people run Lt4 hot cams but I would like a little bit more cam than it offers.
I am defiantly not going to be able to afford the AFR heads. Would a good set of port and polished Vortec heads work.yes first offers a base for them.

Re: Motor build questions
If you go the vortec route, I'd recommend a set of Edelbrock Etec 200cc heads. I currently have SDPC vortec heads on my car. With the money that I've put into these heads, I would have been much happier in the long-run spending a bit more and going with the Etec heads. The etecs are aluminum, out-flow the standard vortecs, and come set up for screw-in rocker studs.
