sbc with lsx topend kit?

Have you guys seen horsepower tv featuring the sbc with ls1 style heads and intake conversion.Seems like a neat lil piece..made some nice numbers and pulled pretty hard uptop.

yea and im sure that block cost a pretty penny aswell..but would be cool to spank the enemy with a taste of his own medicine mixed in with a bit of old simple technology lol

Re: sbc with lsx topend kit?

its a cool concept, but its a little more coin than i'd want to spend versus just doing an lsx motor top to bottom

Yeah definitely.. i think the block was made by Dart( dont hold me to that). But the block was to be priced around 3 grand. I remember i was also lookin into the TCI 6 sped auto trans.. another 6k, without paddle shifters. Great idea, jus way over priced for budget wallets

That fancy aluminum valley cover/distributor mount cant be cheap either.

I'd be a lot more impressed if they used the factory block but of course those guys are not hot rodders but bolt on parts specialists.

Re: sbc with lsx topend kit?

Cool to see, but fail to see the advantage with this. Stock LSx blocks are stronger and cheaper overall. Even the aluminum ones properly done can hold 7 second power. 6 bolt mains are nice. Just dont see the advantage with this hybrid setup.

There are adapters to bolt all kinds of transmissions to the ls stuff now so no advantage to the sbc there. LS stuff has great ECM management so thats cheaper route than aftermarket systems for SBC. I dont know, just dont see the market for a block like that.

Re: sbc with lsx topend kit?

Neat idea, but I don't see the point. $3k block that uses an old-tech rotating assembly, or $50 motor mounts to use the LS block? I really don't see the advantage. To build a strong SBC rotating assembly is nearly as expensive as an equivalent LS assembly (not including the $3k for the block), and all it really saves you is maybe some k-member modification. Unless the LS heads have bolt holes in the right spot, it's going to be a pain in the *** to use SBC accessories.

The cyl heads require adapters to gets the acc's to line up and external water passages to convert to the old standard flow setup

+1 for a solution to a problem thats not there

I've been waiting for someone to tell me what the point is in it, and I see everyone else is too.

Re: sbc with lsx topend kit?

If anyone wants to watch it http://www.spike.com/full-episode/chevy-hybrid/38447 only reason i can see is you use oem small block mounts if put in a older car.For the price of the block i could just do a full ls1 swap on anything and come out cheaper.Or spend the rest of the money on power adders and make more power.

Re: sbc with lsx topend kit?

A 5 second search of ebay yields two dozen adapter plates for the stock SBC mounts for around $30. Hardly worth it for that reason
