Getting my HSR swap next week. Winter plans. Can't wait!!!

Next Friday the day of days is coming for my car. As I have enjoyed playing in my 350 TPI, it's now time to get rid of it for a better upgrade.

I've got a HSR polished coming on next Friday. It'll have brand new 24# Ford Racing injectors, an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, the whole fuel rail kit, custom hoses, a new alternator, tuning for my timing & fuel pressure & a new 58mm throttle body from Holley. The swap is looking like it'll take 3 hours to do. 1.5 hours to take the TPI stuff out & the HSR stuff will already be off my friend's 1989 Formula. Another 1.5 hours to put everything back on and making sure everything is working good.

I'm also upgrading my exhaust in a few weeks for a custom y-pipe with Hedman headers. I was going to go Flowtech and then Pacesetter but ultimately Hedman headers have been around longer & have a brand to stand for, so I will go with them. I am getting rid of muffler/tail pipes because those are big restrictions at the end. All that back pressure has to go. I'm going to have just one pipe coming down from the headers straight out back with a polished tip. 3 inch all the way down. Right now it's 2.5" all the way down I think.

The guy helping me do this swap is a well experienced TPI guy. His brother tunes stock TPI's to get over 400 horsepower to the wheels naturally by messing with the computer, MAF, timing, fuel pressure, etc. One guy once told him he couldn't get over 500 horsepower naturally on the L98 block and he ended up proving them wrong.

I was doing alot of research on a good point for my timing/fuel pressure and I asked him what he thought. He said we'll do the 12 degree timing & 40 psi fuel pressure so I won't go too lean. I don't want to be lean, that's for sure. I was edging towards a similar number, 12 degrees and 42 psi but 40 is fine. He's been doing this kind of stuff for over 20 years and I won't question his intellect on this. I'm going to learn alot of new stuff when we do this. I will take plenty of pics and some videos. I will do a few test runs on the highway after the swap to see what's going on with the car.

Ultimately guys I'm taking my car into the 383 stroker route. That's what I want & that's what I'll get. All I need is 500/550 HP/Torque and I'll be happy. This winter I'm taking the mild cam in the car out and putting in a new fresh slightly bigger cam & some 1.6 roller rockers. Heads will have to wait but I am not worried too much about that right now. I'm doing some suspension, rear end & transmission mods this winter to handle the increase I'll get with my swap next week & for my plans for the 383 work. Wish me luck.

The guy helping me do it knows how and what to take off and how long it'll be. Maybe it takes you longer, maybe it'll take us less time, either way I don't care because I'll be having a good time. That's what counts right?

P.S. I forgot to mention, I've checked your thread out before. It's a good thread too.

Thanks.
Every time I expect something to take so much time, it usually takes much much more with unexpected delays and multiple runs to the parts store.
Good luck with it and keep us updated.

Thanks too. I gotta go get the Felpro gasket kit 1205 for the Stealth Ram to mount on. Josh on here has the other part I need to go with this. I'm picking that up next week.

Actually, the 24's are for my car and have never been used. The 383 Formula that my friend drives is using 30 or 32# injectors.

Sounds like your buddies are the biggest bullshitters going but I'am sure they can manage a intake swap.

If they are not going to burn you a proper chip then everything else is just a band aid. The fuel maps for both intakes will be lot different so you might want to invest into a wbo2 sensor setup so your not just guessing where you should set your FP at.

Also with your header choice you might want to look into Dyno Don's headers.

Nah, I can give you his number and you can talk to him if you'd like. He's not bull-crapping me at all. But I know I will have to get my computer tuned for me to reach my full potential with this swap but I'll be able to drive the car and it'll run fine until I do so. I'm hoping all goes well and I'll make sure to burn a chip for the car soon. His brother does custom tuning for our cars, so we'll see.

Oh, I forgot to tell you, I checked out Dyno Don's headers on here via threads to get an idea of what I would be getting and the cost's but I won't be able to pour out all of that money into headers. I am spending almost a grand doing my intake swap. So I'm pooped on it. The Hedman headers are a reliable brand with alot of praise online and with a 3" system all the way from down to out the car, it'll be nice.

So how about a few more details, what cam ya got etc. I will be in your shoes in a few months and would like to see something comparable.

Before I began purchasing parts for my motor I went across the street to the "dyno guy". I am putting a .510lift 290dur cam in my 355 with hsr and vortec heads and he told me to go with 30# injectors and those should be just big enough to have a little insurance.

I sent you a PM.

On the price, what do you plan on spending just for the HSR and fuel rail kit with the AFPR?

I'm spending $450 for the HSR polished version with the fuel rail kit and AFPR.

I haven't been able to find it cheap enough anywhere yet...how did you get all that with the polished version for $450? used? Even my guys across the street cant get the satin version for less than $365 for just the intake....haven't really priced the fuel rails yet.

The actual price of the polished HSR with the fuel rail kit/AFPR was $650. The guy I am buying it from wants my TPI stuff with my bolt on mods. So he took $200 off the price. He's going back to a stock intake on his Formula for whatever reason but he still has a 383 in that beast.

So it's $450 for the intake/rail kit and I also get the new injectors, an alternator, custom hoses for the HSR and a few other small items for free. It's a good deal considering I was planning to spend over $900 to do it all.

2 more days baby! Actually less than 2 days before my intake/other performance parts swap. I can't wait for this because I have almost nothing else to do besides managing an apartment complex and doing car work.

It's a pretty straight forward swap, no biggie. You have the fuel lines, so ya it should take 4 hours to complete (2 guys), just assemble the fuel rails on the base before you bolt it to the engine to avoid having to lean over the car to press the injectors in. Most of all have fun!
