Two HSR Questions
I have a HSR on my car, I had to remove the upper intake to install a fuel pressure gauge. The paper gaskets in between were ripped (I had used a sealant when I put them together), so I ordered replacements.
The first picture below (Current Gasket) is the one that came with the kit I purchased & I used. I purchased the exact same replacement set (Holley Part#) through Summit.
However, as I was doing some searching on this site, I found a picture of the other type (Different Gasket), this can also be purchased through Summit (Weiand Part#). So my two questions:
1) Just by looking at them, I would think the Different Gasket, the Weiand one, would be better. However, I'm not sure that the "cross" pieces in the middle will make that big of a difference. Thoughts?
2) Most of the posts I've read on here say NOT to use sealant between the upper & lower with the paper gaskets. However, the HSR instructions clearly say to use sealant on them. I'm inclined to not use the sealant, but at the same time I hate going against the manufacturer's recommendations. Sealant or no?
Thanks.

Re: Two HSR Questions
You do not need the gasket that is divided into quadrants. Back when I owned mine I just bought gasket material and cut out my own as needed. It is easy and popular to knife edge the entry ports on the base, not sure if makes a difference in the regular driving RPM range or it would only show at WOT above 4500RPM. But it is easy, anybody can do it.
Re: Two HSR Questions
You want to use the open spaced gasket,,, or just cut out the center area. If you don't the gasket material could breakdown and eventually get down into the engine. I just cut the centers out of the supplied gaskets and used just enough (very little) sealant to make the gasket a little tacky on both sides. I didn't knife edge the center section, but I did "roll"/bevel the edges.
