Ram jet 350??

Didn't know where to put this so I figured I would start here. I am thinking about purchasing a ram jet crate motor for a project I am working on. Has anyone used one? The big question I have is it tunable or pretuned?

If it doesn't come with a computer and wiring harness you have to get a tune on your existing computer to suit it

Re: Ram jet 350??

You can get it with or without a controller. The MEFI4 controller that comes with it can not be accessed for tuning except by very few ppl.The tuning that comes with the controller leaves a lot of power on the table. It is tuned for the Ramjet 350,so,if you make any changes such as cam, etc,it will need to be retuned.Your best bet is to buy the setup w/o the controller & use a GM 0411 controller from a 2000 GM van that still ran the L31 engine. The black box PCM for 96/99 Vortecs will work as well.

Re: Ram jet 350??

Thanks for the input on that. I was going to get it with the MEFI4 controller. We were looking for drop in fuel injected motor that doesnt require much hassle and this seems to be the only one available. I did find there is software available the the MEFI that allows tuning. But maybe swapping to the 411 PCM may be the way to go.

Re: Ram jet 350??

EFI connection sells a new L31 w/ Ramjet & 0411 controller already setup to run. It's just a stock L31 w/o the Ranjet cam & 1.6 roller rockers. It includes everything you need for about the same price as the Ramjet 350.

Re: Ram jet 350??

MEFI4 is still very limited as compared to virtually every other aftermarket controller. Night and day with the right setup.
The El Camino in this vid had a MEFI4 that was "retuned" 3 times, still ran like crap.
As mentioned, it leaves a lot to be desired.

Engine: RamJet 350 running EZ-EFI 2.0
Transmission: Richmond 6-speed
Axle/Gears: 4.1
Re: Ram jet 350 -mine is running on EZ-EFI 2.0

I just converted it to EZ EFI 2.0 since Dec 2013. runs better than ever. I'vehad it about 10 years and I've run it with the MEFI-3 and also by burning my own chips using a 730 ECM. Don't bother with any of that....just go with EZ EFI 2.0.....mine runs better than ever.....most of it plugged into the regular sensors that it came with.

However - if I was doing an engine mod today I'd probably just find a LS engine. I like my RamJet 350, but for all that trouble I think you'd be better off with an LS engine....unless you want to stick with Old School SBC.
