MiniRam and Nitrous

Hey All,

I have been doing some searching and been able to come up with very little.. Maybe someone on here can help.. I am rebuilding my top end over the winter, I have a miniram 1205 and a set of AFR 1040s it is going on.. A ZZ409 cam with 24lb injectors. I am seriously looking at putting Nitrous system on it as well.. I have a couple questions about fitment and any additional components needed to be installed..

1. Can I use the 05151 plate kit from NOS on the miniram?. If so, how would you plumb in the fuel to it? would there have to be any modifications made to the miniram/fuel rail system?
2. Would I still be good with the 24lb Bosch 3 injectors?
3. I am having TPIS burn me a chip to go with my miniram and new upgrades, would I also need to purchase a Adjustable Timing Controller to retard the timing when using the spray vs street driving?

I am going to be doing all of the wrenching myself.. Learning as I go.. I would just like to build everything out before I start installing to make reassembly easier with the additional mods.... Thanks in advance for your wisdom and assistance!!!!!

I would highly recommend if you are going to spray it that you get a proper standalone, not the factory ECU that has no way to control anything. With a standalone you could prevent the system from activating if you aren't in PE mode, control timing, etc.

And TPIS is not the hot ticket for getting a chip. Contact Tuned Performance here on the forum. He's your best bet for an e-tune.

Plate should work. If you can get a -4 type an fitting to go to the schrader valve on the fuel rail you can get fuel that way

or plumb the fuel lines in to the rails with -6 an fittings and get a gauge adapter fitting that has a 1/8 npt port you can run -3 or -4 fuel line to the solenoid.

wet kits like that are tuned by jetting. Fine tuned by fuel pressure or chip tuning.

an aftermarket ignition box with activated timing retard is ideal for this, or at wot you just subtract few degs from the table but then you are down power off the bottle

Orr and GD are correct. you will need to pull out some ignition timing at WOT. to do that I used a MSD CD box (digital 6 plus) and pulled out 4 deg for a 100 shot and 6 deg for the rare times I sprayed a 150 shot. colder range of spark plug too. I got fuel from the Schrader valve on the fuel rail and ran this fuel line to the solenoid.

Hey guys.. thanks for all of the info.. I have a MSD 6AL box installed right now. Are you talking about using MSD 8680 Adjustable timing controller to pull timing or is there a different product to use from MSD??.. I totally understand how to get fuel to the solenoid now.. thanks for the advice.. just need to know if that MSD box is the right one...

Re: MiniRam and Nitrous

I never had a MSD6AL or MSD 8680, so I can't tell you for sure. Try to check on some of the specifications for it. I know for sure my MSD 6250 Digital 6-Plus box absolutely could retard timing for nitrous. I wired it and used it that way for about 5 years/30 bottles of nitrous.

Re: MiniRam and Nitrous

Probably could just use the controller to piggyback it. Set the chip up with the nitrous tune and use the 8680 to add it back in for na. Just dont forget to change it back when on the bottle.
Else you’d need a msd digital 6 plus box that has the built in retard. Its 416$ But does it automatically

Re: MiniRam and Nitrous

That is true indeed, It would probably work just fine.

I am just throwing this out there, I am selling my complete MSD ignition system since I switched over to a Holley HyperSpark ignition system a few months ago.
This has it all, but I am not sure you would be able to use the distributor. You could certainly sell it along with the TWO caps and recoup some of your money. I am not currently interested in splitting up this ignition system sale, I prefer to just ship it all to one person in one box. This also includes a better ignition coil too.

That's all. Just mentioning it to ya

You could use the 8680 and manually adjust before and after a nitrous run, but the add-on "module" you want would be the MSD 8987. You can wire it so when you hit the nitrous, it'll automatically retard the timing. Way back when I first ran a small single stage kit, I'd just retard the base timing before I made a nitrous run, but that got old quick - lol,

Re: MiniRam and Nitrous

Will the plate kit work with a 58mm TB? Seems like that kit is meant for a stock L98.
