Project Car
Here is a friend of mines project car. Tell me what you think and if he has a alot ahead of him...
Btw, he already has another engine and we're hoping the tranny in this car is still good. A friend of mine is going to make him a ford 9" to fit his car, so he should be good to go. But... just take a look of the pictures to see what he's up against.
BTW, all comments should be taken with sarcasim. I've never met "ringmaster" nor have a clue who he is.

I hope your friend didn't pay more than $500 for that POS! Damn that thing is in terrible condition! Might have been better off in the long run paying more for a car that didn't need as much work. Hey, but on the bright side, it does have a high rise spoiler!

Man, it needs alot of work and lots of hours with a razor blade and delicate time removing that gawd awful splatter paint. Who paints there engine accessories white???? How much did he give for it? Does it run? Did you get wheels and tires with it? Hopefully the former owner was eaten by the dark clowns that he liked so much!
He has a lot ahead of him. I don't know, but once you start taking things out, it looks like you're going to be fighting another enemy. Rust.
Interior wise, looks like you're going to have to find a lot of parts for the interior.
Exterior wise, some of the panels, etc will need to be redone.
Engine? You are replacing that L03 with another engine?
Put the car on wheels and see if you can even get it to move.
I have the feeling that rust is going to be a huge issue with that car, more than anything else. Paint everywhere. Just a lot of love and a lot of work and that car may be back on the road again. It's going to be a very long road.

There are no wheels. He'll be using a set from my friend just to get it out of the parking lot. So far, he hasn't paid for it, but will before long. Yes, it's under 500$.
RSFreak, The high rise spoiler is going to be the first thing sold. He wants to make it look like the california camaros.
chevyguy1969, Hasn't given anything for it yet. We're not sure if the engine runs, but the lot owner says it won't. He could careless, a 3.8 is going in it's place.
Snowdog 91 Formula, That was my main concern too, but he doesn't seem to care much about it. Interior wise, it may be gutted and just ran as is. The seats I think can be cleaned up. The carpet and panels are trashed. The dash is cracked and custom made speaker grills on it. The exterior however doesn't appear to have even the slightly dent. The lower ground effects in the front is cracked through, but he already has another one. And I think the rear bumped may be slightly messed up. Other than that, the body is pretty much straight.

Hmm... I reached a bandwithd limit... I didn't even know that site had one.
Anyone know a good place to host for free? Just until I can get my own?
Making a mirror now, maybe it'll stay up a little longer

Aside from the nasty paint splatter you have a semi-descent project. My two project birds didn't have artistic accents to worry about, just rust and body work. After you replace the dash and console as well as the head liner your car would look a lot better.
Don't know what the previous owner was thinking with the white paint but I guess that was his car his choice.
Good luck with the project.

At this exact moment the spoiler is not for sale... not because he wants it, but because the car is not actually his. As soon as it becomes his, he's pulling the engine and taking the spoiler off.
I won't make this a for sale post, but as soon as I find out something from him, I'll let you all know. I believe his original plan was to put it on ebay. I guess he might skip that if he gets an offer he wants.
I'm sending the pictures to Z28racer right now, I'll try to make another mirror tonight as well. I think it's interesting car, I'll try to show picture by picture as he works on it.

Is the spoiler in good shape? Find out how much he wants for it! I would be very interested in taking that off his hands!
Now please untie your panties and get the post order straight.

Have you tried getting one yet ? they were avail from jegs, but the last i checked A&A got bought out by JSP and they were no longer making them, but jegs nor summit could tell me for sure, i bought one from www.spoiler2000.com which was an injection molded hollow plastic repro, pretty light, but the thing was like twisted lengthwise and the middle pedistals came about 1.5" from the decklid, and most other places want a fortune for it :-/
Rust.
I still think once they get the interior gutted and the motor out, they will be facing a serious rust problem. Are all the body panels good? Are they rusted too? When you guys looked at the car, did you get a good look underneath at the panels at all? Is there any bondo?
If the panels are going to be removed and the car stripped down, and be made into a new car, it would be a tremendous work! I'd like to see the progress on the project myself.
I have the feeling there is going to be a lot of money put into replacing a lot of rusted through panels that may have been overlooked and not seen.
Maybe the paint prevented the rust from occurring, but I think more that the paint was used to cover all the rust.
Maybe finding a car without a motor for around the same price that they are asking might be a better plan. Have you and your friend looked at cars without motors in them? You said he is building a motor now.
This is going to be one agonizing project in my opinion. Unless your friend has some magical way to get around the rust.

Snowdog 91 Formula, The interior will probably be worked on thursday or friday. Maybe sat. as well. between gutting and trying to see which pieces need to be replaced and so forth. There are no backseats, but I don't think he cares. The dash, steering wheel, and front seats will probably all be replaced. The splatter paint we'll see about. Not sure on that yet.
In terms of shape of the body panels, they are in good condition. I found zero dents. But this may be due to zero amount of shine. The purple is extremly oxidized. There was bondo on the front right quarter panel and some in the rear I believe.
The body panels I do not believe are rusted. In fact, I think the fading may have been taking place and the guy simply spray painted the whole car trying to hide the fading. We found the original purple in one or two areas.
He is not too worried about rust, he doesn't think it's going to be bad. Me on the other hand thinks it's going to be a horrible problem. We haven't seen the under chassis yet, so I don't know what it looks like. The owner of the lot said the car had only been sitting up for around four months. We're hoping most of the rust is just surface rust.
We've checked all over for a car with no motor. It's hard living in a town of almost no one. We've found a few, but for what he's paying for this car, I guess you can't complain. His engine is already built so the 305 is going to be pulled ASAP.
I plan to show picture by picture photos unless he starts doing the work while I'm not around.
------------------
As for the spoiler. I talked to him tonight about it, he said at the moment it's for sale, but he's planning to go through ebay, unless someone made him an offer to just avoid the whole e-bay thing. I'm not trying to screw any of you over, this is his car, his spoiler. In no way have I put even a penny into this car. I'll talk to him about the above people who are wanting it and see what he says.

Get something else. It will cost you a true fortune to get that thing back on the road. Maybe you can part it out to get enough money for something better.
Why does everyone think that this thing is going to be so rusted out? Granted there is no way of looking under it yet, it seems to have been a southern car. (Only someone of an inbred background would sport such a pos). Ive seen the body and there dosnt seem to be any signs of rust. As far as bondo go, there is only a small patch noticable on the front passenger side fender. Other then that the body look pretty straight.

I have seen some worse project cars then that one. It is always good to start from the ground up no matter how much work needs to be done. It is an experience that you'll never forget. My current 86 wasn't as bad as that car but it came out pretty damn good so far it is a work in progress suspension and interior is in the works, the drivetrain is being completed now. Hell I am looking for a 71-78 stingray vette right now. I don't care how the body looks as long as the frame is straight. Hell it don't even haveto have axles, trasn, engine, or interior for that matter. I plan on spending like 2 years building that car from the ground up. And when I'm done oh everyone better look out. 502 cubes of pure happyness. Electron Blue with silver ghost flames or maybe a darker blue. and some sick looking engine compartment. and when its done :hail:

in response to...
just one question...HOW IN THE *HELL* ARE YOU GOING TO GET THAT OFF THE GROUND!?!?!
all i have to say is.... uhhhhhhh!?!?!?!?! maybe we can get some ICP fans in here "pumped" up enough to lift it long enough to get some wheels on it. seriously though, it look as if theres a rear sway bar that can be used. jack it or anything else until it starts to bend. any suggestions???

A tow truck to lift the front end? Open the hood and use the hook to lift the front end up. Put blocks underneath the front, and you can get underneath the rear and use a hydraulic jack for the back end. Or find some sort of lift with a hook that can lift it up enough in the front.

Man, I thought my car was in rough shape! This car is gonna be a handfull. But at least he's saving the car from its present state! You said the car's getting a 3.8, right? That should be pretty interesting. Is it gonna be a turbo motor, or is he just gonna cruise with it? Well, whatever you guys are doing with it, I wish you luck.

I'm preparing the page now. I've since moved to www.mattsgarage.net where the projectcar and my car will have it's own webpage.
The project has been a little slow due to money, and a small motor mount problem. The 3.8 ran 11.0s at 125 in the last persons car, so we're hoping for similar results. In terms of the car at the moment, most everything in it has been ripped out. The interior is being changed over and using somewhat what we can, the engine was yanked and sold locally... the engine is the next thing to do. He's hoping to drop the 3.8 before long, but we're expecting some weird problems to happen as with any motor swap.
As soon as I get the project car page up, I'll post it here.

Is it supercharged or what?
