Painting engine block

Ok I want to repain my engine block while its out of the car and I was wondering how to go about this. First i have to clean the thing off because the valve covers, timing cover, intake, jsut about everything was leaking oil so the thing is soaked in oil. Autozone sells this acid paint stripper stuff that I have used on body parts to eat the pain off but would it be okay to use on the engine block? Right now its painted chevy orange but alot of the paint is flaking off. I am not sure what color to reapint it, either. I like chevy orange but everyone does that. I will probably paint it ford blue because I like the blue better and it will look good with chrome. Who cares if its Ford blue. But I need to know if its okay to use paint stripper on the engine block.

I forgot who did it, but they painted theirs in an aluminum color. Looked like an aluminum block and heads. Looked awesome.

You may want to get a wire brush on a drill or something to scrape away any rust/buildup on the block, then it would probably be a good idea to spray a whole bunch de-greaser, then pressure wash it squeaky clean. I plan on painting my block in an aluminum color, like Mark mentiond above, its gonna look sweet

I would suggest getting the engine painting kit from Por15. Comes with brushes, degreaser and whichever color paint you want. I really like how the POR15 paint covers compared to the spraybomb stuff.
