how do i make a switchboard?
in my 92 RS i have the same ash trey as everyone else with camaros.
i was searchin some other site, and this kid had a plastic plate that he cut to the size of the spot where his ash trey was. and he mounted the switches on there.
as of now, i cut a hole in the bottom of my ash trey and put the switch actually in the ash trey, but i would like to do what this kid did. my only problem is that i dont know what kind of material i can use that is sturdy enough to hole like 4 or 5 switches.

I done this a while ago. I took my ash trey out and put in a piece of sheet metal. I actually got it from a hardware store, it was one of those plates they use to nail wood together. It was all I could find at the time. It works great, its very strong, and it cost less than a dollar. The only problem I have found is that the plastic strip that goes around the shifter sometimes pushes the wires off of my switches when I put the car in park. I just moved the switches for now, but I will have to figure something else out when I want to install more switches.

I suggest using a piece of p;exiglass.. it is easily cut and fit into just about anywhere. Plexiglass has so many uses lately I have just been getting the large sheets of it. I was debating on doing switches there. I just decided to remove the ashtray lid fill the hole so it is flush and add a classic 60s camaro logo there.

Do you know if that cover flips over the switch and hides it? We have @$$hole cops round here that are very picky bout loud stereos. I would like to put an amp-off switch there that way I can shut it off at a moments notice and it would be hidden from the cop who pulls me over. One of the local cops busted my buddy when he had a switch on his amp in plain site. The officer pulled him over and was like "turn up your stereo real quick." Well, my buddy had shut off his amp when he seen the cop turn around, and the officer looked around and told him to flip that switch by his feet. Well, he was screwed there and got a $60 noise ordinance ticket
. How hard would it be to put one there anywayz? I would only need like 1 switch until I add the other stuff that Iwant which will add about another 3 or 4 switches. Any clue on how many you could put there w/ a piece of plexyglass?

I've got two rocker switches there right now, you should easily be able to get 5 or 6 in there, depending on the kind you buy.
