How can you strip the paint off of the front/rear bumper covers???

I need to get both my front and rear urethane bumper covers painted. I talked to a body shop guy who is a real good friend of the family. He said that if the paint already on there was cracked at all, I'd have to get the bumper stripped. This is because if you were to paint directly over it, the cracks would reappear, which totally makes sense. The guy he sends them out to charges 65 bucks per bumper to strip it. Is there a way I can do it myself to save some money? Anyone else done it? Thanks in advance.

That is exactly right actually, and that is why I usually only show the sides of the car...but it did look good didn't it? If you look at my reader ride, I photoshopped the front of my car so it won't look as bad. I'm gettin it repainted this summer so I can then post pics that are me free.

I have removed the paint and prime from 5 sets of bumper covers over the last 5 years and to do it right it is a lot of work.

Scope of work:
Removed covers from car.
Srew it down to a saw horse.
Apply special paint remover to remove paint.
DA prime.
Hand sand with 120 g. soup and water.
Let dry and prime with flex primer.
Lots of work, but looks good after base coat clear coat.
All our cars [6] are black.

What kind of stripper do I use? The regular stuff and the hardware store is harmful on plastics/rubbers. Thanks.

Do you prefer Cambles or Progresso? :sillylol: Sorry I make spelling mistakes all the time. But then again with Clam Chowder it taste kind of gritty. You never know.
