painting wheels???HOW TO PREP????

i just finished polishing one of my 15" firebird wheels...i am happy with the results..however the painted parts between the surface or the spokes is really bringing them down. i am thinking i want to paint that part my body color (burgandy)...but i am not sure how to prep them so the paint will stick. they are kinda dirty and impossible to clean (damn firebird wheels) and the paint stripper isnt really too useful in those tight spaces either......any ideas??? should i just scuff it up a little and then spray em???will the paint just fall off?

I just used some rubbing alcohol to clean the surface, then used regular gloss black spray paint.

Make sure when you sand you get the groove reallllly smooth, my friend did his and ended up with pits and scars, of course from far away nobody notices, but he knows they are there and it bothers him, we didn't use primer

I wish I had put a clear coat on it, but next time I paint them, whenever the paint dulls I'll do it then.
