Good job on the install, but can you hide it with the lighter ****? Even when it's set inside the tube a little you can see it in sunny daylight.

Off the topic... I love the white face gauges. Hwere did u get them?

The service engine light is on cause I cycled the key one time to get the shift lite to go thru its test cycle. I wouldn't be caught dead driving around with the SES light on :nono:

Jeff,

The lite hooks up with 3 wires. Switched + (red) ign. trigger (green) and ground (black)

Its fairly simple to program and comes with idiot proof instructions.

All I did was take the lighter out, open up the hole a little bit with a file, and glue it in the hole. I used the defrost switch for power and ground and hooked up the green wire to the MSD 6A's white trigger wire.

By far the best shiftlite out there. For $55 i think its a great investment. You can also hook up a relay to it and have an RPM activated module that will turn on NOS, etc.

You will spend $75.00 for MacEwens guages. I suggest doing the DIY white face guages. PennylessZ28 has a great site with instructions on how to do it. You can even download the templates off his site. I think they look just as good as MacEwen at a fraction of the cost. You can even add your own customizing touch like I did with the RS image on the speedo and the chevrolet on the tach...

On the shifter light can you install one of these on a automatic? I guess you could and then go from 1 to 2 to D to OD would that work?

I have mine on my automatic car. If I leave it in OD it shifts automatically around 4500RPM, but I like to hold it a little higher on occasion.

BTW- Got a link to the WFG site?

How hard is it to install one of those shift lights in the cigarette lighter? Where does it hook into? I have an automatic so would the light go on every time my car shifts? That could get annoying when your not racing....

Here is the link to the DIY white face gauges
http://www.mikekey.net/fbody/whitegauges/index.html

I am almost done redoing mine. Instead of CD labels this time I went to Kinkos and had my guages laminated to make them shiny and more durable. Then I am using 3M double sided carpet tape to attach them. Its very fun trying to get the boxes for the mileage and trip perfectly straight. I figured out the best way for me was getting those box knife blades and cutting them to size with a dremel and then just hitting them lightly with a hammer... As for the circles I used a punch. My dad had a whole set of different sizes.... I should have pics soon..
If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

The shift lite is so easy to install in the cig lighter hole.... heres a few tips:

1) Remove cig lighter/defrost switch panel with T-15 bit.
2) Unscrew lighter retainer ring from the rear of panel.
3) You will now have removed the lighter assembly from the panel leaving a hole. Open the hole slightly with a file until the shiftlite fits snug in the hole.
4) Glue it in place.
5) Your switched power and ground come fromt he stock defrost switch. On the left side of the switch there are two terminals. The black one is ground and the other is switched power. Tap into these to power up the lite.
6) Test your progress. Turn ign. to "on" position. Lite should blink once to confirm power on.
7) Run a single tach signal wire from the white wire on the coil that is closest to the front of the car. There are two, make sure you get the one closest to the front of the car.
8) run tach signal wire inside passenger compartment to the back of shiftlite "green" wire.
9) Put it back together and follow programming sequence as per instructions.

Simple really

Bill,

Let me know how accurate the gauges are afterwards. The whole taking the needles off thing kind of intimidates me. I would like to make sure my gauges work as they did from the factory.

Thanks for the tip...

Mike
