How can I make this work...

Hey guys. I got some Chrome Valve Covers as a gift, i'm trying to get them on my '85 Trans Am LG4. Well, the hole on each valve cover is too big for the PCV and for the exhaust line that runs up to the air cleaner. What's my best bet: Get a bigger exhaust line to the air cleaner and a bigger PCV, get a different set of valve covers, or use the chrome breather that came with the dress up kit on one side, and figure something else out on the other side?

Aside from emissions, what is the purpose of the PCV & the line to the air cleaner? If i take them off, will i simply gain power and pollute more, or is there some higher meaning i'm not aware of?

Thanks,

you will have to get a couple of rubber grommets for your valve covers to hook up the pcv valve and the breather line on the other valve cover that goes to the air cleaner. they are avalible at the local part stores. rubber grommets should of come with the chrome covers, atleast mine did for my 79 camaro. you will need a pcv valve as this vents the crankcase so it doesnt build up pressure and runs the crankcase gases back into the intake to be burned. the breather tube, i think just lets fresh air into the crankcase. you can use either the chrome breather or the tube as they both do the same thing. you will need both to get the most out of you engine. i dont think it would be healthy for the engine if both holes were plug, but i have seen valve covers without any holes at all, just an oil fill hole. others on the board might be able to help on that one. good luck with it.

you answered your own question, just use the breather that came witht he valve covers, I used a breather and threw away the old air thing that was in my LG4, as for the other side, there are adaptors.
