All British Thirdgenners come inside
They are SLP 30000 headers 1 5/8 primaries with air fittings. If you dont have air they do them without the air fittings , check their web site. They are expensive but I got them on offer at summit who dont stock them any more. Being made from stainless steel they should last.
Rockers amplify the cams valve lift stock the ratio is 1.5 but you can fit 1.6 ratio. It is a much easier way of increasing lift than changeing the cam but the results aren't as good. People often say they dont notice much difference but I did. The rollers reduce valvetrain friction.
I'm about done with mods to my car when I fit these headers. I think it will be quick enough and retain an acceptable fuel economy. I know that heads and cam are where the real power is to be found though.

Be careful when fitted 1;6 ratio as the heads to to have a bit of grinding work to stop the pushrods fouling in their guides.

Dan,
More like $6 per gallon!!!!!!!!!
In a recent survey,96% of american car owners have a second car which they use on a daily basis.
Most of us tend to use ours on weekends and fine days.
Mine coveres about 4000 miles each year and very rarely comes out of the garage in winter.

gas as you call it is about 76 pence a litre which is about 80% tax
it is expensive but if you want to drive third gens or any u.s. car you pays your money and makes your choice
as for insurance i pay about £550 fully comp as a daily driver

I converted my camaro to run on LPG (propane) which is less than half the cost of petrol. I get about 17-18 mpg and as the fuel is 1/2 price I look at it as though I'm getting 35 mpg.
What taxes in the US do you pay? In the UK we get a sales tax which is 17.5%, gasoline is 80%, income tax averages about 33% (including national insurance).
I got things sorted with Summit. But be careful when they quote a shipping charge they are only giving you an estimate.

Hi all you UK thirdgenners!
I have just paid £260 Fully comprehensive, protected insurance to Adrian Flux in Norfolk for a 350 powered, T5 1991 RS Camaro that I have ALMOST finished! Quite pleased with that!
Regarding importing. Custom charges a bit hit and miss. "Do you feel lucky?", I think may be the phrase here!
I recently imported a V8 T5 trans, front g/fx spoiler and rear aero spoiler all in one package and saved about £1000 on the price of these bits in the UK. Trans $200. rear spoiler $300. Front ground effects "wraparound" chin spoiler (brand new and primed), $150! I was quoted £600 for this bit alone in the UK! Ever tried getting hold of those double filament yellow bulbs for the front marker lights? Got a box of 'em in from the states with the other bits mentioned above-stuffed in the side of the parcel! That was one heavy parcel I can tell you!!
By the way, for those like uk89camaro who is following my "flamed" RS buildup, you may be pleased to know it passed it's MOT first time last Thursday!! Hooray! Fitting that 350 and quadrajet has made it an awesome car!! Leaving the testing station on Haloween night, it went sideways for 50 yards! scared me to death! Roads a bit greasy, clutch still a bit unfamiliar and a heavy foot (accidentally!) caused this! Needless to say, I won't be doing that again. I am now preparing it for paint. Should look good when it is eventually completed.
Oh, I was sent a brand new ECM water temperature sensor and connector from Florida for an LO3 V8, by mistake. So, if anyone wants this for a low price, let me know.
My project over the winter is to try and complete my 1986 show camaro for next summers season. All I've got to do now is try to persuade my Wife to drive one of the Camaros to a show! She won't drive the RS 'cos it has "too much power and a manual", and she won't drive the red show camaro 'cos "it is too much responsibility for me to drive it when you have put in to it all that time and cash"!! Oh well! Can't win 'em all.
Good luck to you all during the winter.
Andy.

Simon -
Interesting question to which I have a real world answer.
UK versus UK tax:
VAT varies by locality. I pay 7% but 5 miles away, they pay 6%. If you buy out-of-state (say via mail or the Internet), it is tax-free. A big reason that I buy from Summit, for instance (another state).
When I moved to the UK, I assumed that the taxes would be higher, but this did not materialize. Excluding the petrol tax (simply because I did not track this), I found the overall tax bill to be roughly the same in the UK and the US on an annual basis. There are different taxes (council, TV license in the UK versus Federal, State, and Local in the US), but the net result is remarkably similar. From a services standpoint, the only major difference was the NHS. I, like all US residents in the US, pay separately (like BUPA - if it still exists) for my health insurance to the level of coverage that I want. I can control that cost via crappier health coverage with higher co-payments per doctor visit, for example.
I have to say it was quite a surprise when I went to the hospital in the UK with an emergency with my then-20-month-old to not get a paperwork hassle (I still hadn't received my NHS card and no one was bothered).
Like I said - it's about the same excluding petrol...

How do we drive V8's in the UK? like any other car for three weeks of the month and then slowly, untill payday!
With regards to the origional question, get Canadian spec lights, they have one fog light and one reverse, shouldn't be too tough to wire!
US Automotive is great for me, as I live about 4 miles down the road. I also use Dave Eady, as he is a mate.
Mods so far: Edlebrock air filter, Flowmaster American Thunder back section on order!
Future mods: due to only two owners, and an inch thick history file, nothing (too nice to mess with)
Hi to all UK thirdgenners!
AAC(UK) Camaro discussion forum
Gents,
Thought I might point out that the newly designed AAC(UK) discussion forum has begun to have a little more traffic (relatively speaking), and whilst this site is probably the best there is, it would be nice to have our own section for UK Camaro's.

Wow, hi guys! I started this thread a while back and then forgot all about ... I remember 2 years ago I started a similar thread and there was no one from the UK out there! apologies for not writing back sooner.
My experience with buying parts- I got the SSM lift kit from Summit in the States, ended up costing me £100 in customs charges!!! I have installed the subframe connectors from the kit (awesome pieces) but haven't done the lift kit (seems too heavy and you would looses some handling plus the rear ends on our cars are quite fragile to say the least!)
I also got the 1/8th scale IROC plastic model kit from the States and paid no customs- ended up costing £70 or so. Awesome kit if you haven't seen it- very detailed!
I have seen an IROC over here with one of the reverse lights changed to a fog light, looked really good, it also had the hood louvers modified to be operational with a lovely fabricated aluminium runner and grille mesh... looked good, shame the car was a heap though with the headlining sagging like a grandma's box
I have spent this Winter sanding and polishing my wheels, after having our first daughter ~(now 1) money is tight and anything that is free is a bonus. Plus they are looking awesome! I have gone from 120 grit to 1200 and then used Autosol to finish, big difference! Gets rid of all of the machining too!
I have also been hammeriting and waxoyling as the car has been off the road, I only tax it for 6 months of the year. I use MCE for insurance and pay approx £360 for 7,500 annual mileage. They are excellent and the cheapest I have found.
All the work on my car has been done by Robin at Autopontiac in Twickenham. The man is a brilliant engineer and quite a laugh too, he is very reputable having raced Camro's Morgan's and Bikes in the day!
This Summer we will be attending The Hot Rod Nationals. We always used to go to Billing (last 7 years) ut after last year I think we may be too wild for it. I was warned 3 times by those sad Cop wannabe's about doing a burnout and generally enjoying ourselves. The event is too geared for 1980's Cadillac driving(with obligitory American Flag) and people wearing 10 gallon hats and talking about caravan holiday's. We just want to get hammered and have a laugh. The Hot Rod Nats sounds more like that, with burnout competitions and wet t-shirt competitions
I will definitely be at 'The Pod' this summer and also go to the Classic American event at Shakespear County Raceway. Be great to meet you all!
Cheers all!
Felix

ZZ42,
How's things going, sounds like you've been busy!
I've got one of those 1/8th models on it's way too, paid about the same as you.
I agree with you about Billing to a greater degree, where and when are thge Hod rod Nats?
My damn dizzy has just decided to warn me it's about sh@gged, and whilst I agree that Robin is quite an ameanable (sic?) chap, he tried to stiff me £150 for one from a scrapper! Got a re-con from autozone coming for £100 shipped.
Could really do with some help from guys like you (i.e. Practical experience in spannering) on the AACUK link I posted above. It's still a relatively new forum, and whilst this site is way ahead of others in tech. content, it would be nice to get some of your knowledge base on this UK site.
regards,
paul

Hi mate,
Yeah been pretty busy, also loads of house type work- been filling in the pond in the garden and stuff like that!
So Robin tried to stiff you eh? Very interesting, he's always been pretty good to me though the last time the car had a service he was supposed to have serviced the Borg Warner- I'm not 100% sure he did as it still leaks slightly. He can be expensive I have to admit, but I always feel I pay for trust and dependability and the fact that I can always call him up and he will advise. Plus he knows my car inside out. When he did the ZZ4 install, he did a fantastic job and his attention to detail even goes as far as routing the plug leads in the factory stock locations under the headers. The job looked factory and he had to re-engineer the Holley throttle linkage and did a great job! I tend to do minor servicing myself (oil, plugs) and get him involved on the larger projects liek subframe connector installation and rear axle.
I've also gone retro and bought a couple of Tamiya Kits (Hornet and Hotshot) to relive my childhood (I'm 28) So my attention has been diverted a little, but I'm back on track now. I'm getting the IROC taxed 1st April and back on the road! Even got a baby seat that will take a lap belt so I can go cruising with the little one
Wife cracked up when she walked in the room and saw me reading the History Of Camaro to my daughter- she will say IROC soon
I will check out the link, time is an issue for me, I rarely have any. When I do I tend to come here. My site www.geocities.com/ukzz4iroc is just dead now (in terms of updates) as I haven't had ANY time to do anything with it and won't for the forseeable future- sorry to let anyone that had faith in it down, just one of those things. I also have tried to spend time at www.iroc-z.com and a few others, just can't keep it going so I minimise it to this site and ebay really. I will check it out though and try and contribute to keep the movement alive
The Hot Rod Nats is around August and is over 3 days- I will get the dates today and it would be great to meet up with you there and get hammered! We used to make the SummerNats a reunion of sorts and I think we will now change this to the Hot Rods indefinitely.
Everyone should come to that and represent the thirdgen UK connection!

I don't want to do the guy a dis-service, Robin obviously knows his stuff! I had a cyl. head of him a while back.
Check this out for a variety of prices I was quoted for a dizzy.
Ultimate spares = £350+Vat (Re-con less £100 core charge)
Usautomotive = £200+vat (Re-con)
Autopontiac = £150+vat (salvage)
Autozone = £70+£25 shipping (2-3 days) less £30 core charge if I drop it in next time I'm passing. (Florida!)
On your engine front, did you supply the engine? I'd really like a 350 or a 383 stroker, but I'm thinking it would be cheaper to buy another car with one in it already.
I think we're fairly like minded in interests, I bought a Tamiya C5 Corvette before Christmas, and I've put as much money into that as my camaro this year

Paul, went to your CarDomain, very good and informative by the way. Where did you get your Edelbrock Strut Tower Brace and how much was it? Did you notice a big difference?

Robin supplied the engine as well through Real Steel. Cost a fortune, the 5ltr I had in it was great and strong anyway just thought longer term I wanted raw power. It was all paid for (still paying for
) by loan. The job included removal of all aircon eqip, heddman headers, supply and fit of ZZ4 (£3k alone!) I did it just before I got hitched as I knew I wouldn't be able to go that crazy again for years (maybe never
)
The Street Rod Nats are 22nd - 25th August! Just found out (thanks Google)
Looking at the prices quoted by Robin, he was quite favourable, he has to take a cut too... I got a purpose built 700r4 built in the States through him for £1100 all made for my purposes
I would like a beefier torque convertor though. That price was fitted too! That is good value in my book.
Catch ya later

Yes, I think that sounds like good value. Wish I had the dough to do the same same right now. I suppose I should stop buying tarty stuff, and save up for some real power!
The Edelbrock STB was about £150 through USautomotive, which I thought was a decent price. Made a huge difference to understeer.
Thanks for the complements on my Cardomain site
. In some ways I wish the car I bought was more of a nail, then I wouldn't be so fussed about keeping it stock. (Damn, it's not as if it's a special rare car
)
Anyhow, I love the thing to pieces.
Cheers,
Paul

Way, way too far for me and my family, powermite! Nevertheless, we will try to grace a few this year. First one this year for us is Billing on that same weekend I think!
I have just had a quote of £1500 to paint our RS and clearcoat it soon! Quick bit of saving up needed now!
I have been "forced" to use it everyday this week and last week since my everyday Micra work car has a bit of rust! I put my body hammer through both inner sills as I was getting it ready for it's MOT.
I have now spent a total of 12 hours reconstructing that side. Amazing what you find when you cut off a 12 year old cars sill! Not much metal I can tell you.
The RS is being fitted out with a hard hitting sound system as we speak
Only the subs to do now. Sounds strong.
uk89camaro.
Good job done with that dizzy. Good price as well. Wonder why it went out like that? One morning fine, next, not? Did you do a post mortem on it?
Go on, mod the car! You can keep the stock bits to return it to original if you want. Find a scrap yank with a 350 in it. Yank it out (pardon the pun), rebuild, drop in - instant 350 power! Sounds really easy when you say it quick. Worked for me!!
Powermite.
Did you finish off your ally interior?
Andy.

I'm looking for a 350 or probably a 383 stroker in the mags. Should be cheaper than building one from scratch.

Nothing big (unless i see some nice wheels) other than that, a steering wheel would be nice, and some bonnet struts would also be good ( i hear that hawks (i think) are brining some) maybe a shifter. we'll see what's there.

Yo Felix
Long time no speak!!!
Just had to fit a bloody foglight to my z for this years MOT...horrible dangly thing it is too.........only had the car for nearly 5 years
However....if you have a look at a MK1 Ford fiesta they have a lovely foglight(???!!!) which is angled to fit on the rear valance...this angle is exactly the same as the rear bumber cover on a 'maro....
The other option ( which i think i'll do when i get the time ) is to fit another bulb to the rear of the taillight cluster...watch out though...with the higher power bulbs you have to be careful it doesnt melt the cluster...........i bit more research here on stopping the heat might be worthwhile........
Think it must be about time for a british thirdgen gathering...what do you say guys.....
( Oh yeah...first day out this year with the t-tops off + windows down now i remember why i drive this car( and have to work like to dog to py for the bloody petrol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

hmm, York, nottingham a couple of midlands, one down south, i guess somewhere near coventry / nottingham / northamptonshire is the nearest compromise..... maybe billing?
maybe we should tie it in with all gens, i dont think a thirdgen gathering would be that sucessfull in the UK. maybe an F - body nationals?
i'm pretty sure there isn't one at the moment, i know there is a Mustang show at Knebworth and also a corvette nationals at the same venue.

Phil! How ya doin'? Thought you'd been flooded away or something as I stopped hearing from you around the really bad floods we had over here
Good to hear from you again and hope that gorgeous car is still going well for ya!
How's about meeting at Shakespeare County Raceway for the Classic American meeting which I think is in May. Be great to meet up and also have some fun down the strip
It is all in the latest CA mag. Check it out!
Anyway go to dash!
Felix

Mate, I have dash overlays if you wanted them as templates- I would love to get that done as well!
I also have a Momo, got it a while back- the Sport model with aluminium! Looks great, just need other things in the interior to pick up on the aluminium, hence the interest in hydrographics!
As I said eralier, have no spare time these days, moved last July (now big garage too!) and my site hasn't been touched since. Any spare time I do have is on baby, wife and car + my wife's pregnant again- I have been busy
Thank *** for having back seats
So any time I do get is 'on-line' is just spent here now..
Meet up this summer all of us!
Cheers,
Felix

This hydrographics stuff is fantastic ( And no i'm not on commision !!!! )
You can just take any part and dip it in a tank and it comes out as carbon fibre!!!! Imagine stuff like door handles ( Can be metal/plastic whatever )light bezels etc etc. The tanks are big enough to get a motorcyle frame in so you can see there is potential for any ( even large ) car parts.
If anyones interested let me know as i'll probably get a volume discount if theres a lot of one type of coating ( eg carbon fibre ) as we do a lot of work with them.
Another kiddie Felix!!!!
I can tell you've been busy!!!!!!

Hi all.
Yep, I plan on coming to this one!
Got to meet you all at least once this year!!
Dying to see all these cars I hear so much about. It had better be sunny as well. Did anyone book the sunshine this year?
Interestingly (for me anyway!!), I am having a minor leg operation on the 3rd April (varicose veins stripped out at the ripe old age of 42!!). The doc says I should be okay by that weekend!! Might get economy class syndrome on the way down though!! If I can't drive, my Wife will have to!!
Andy.

I live about 25 miles from billing, and we have been test tanning the sun all week, its absolutely marvelous! I was at billing last week to see a mate, and the venue looks superb, quite a bit of work has been done over winter, including improving drainage!
if the weather is like it has been over the last couple of weeks, were laughing!

Unfortunately you can't dip anything which will absorb moisture...so the door panels are out...but if you wanted to you could seperate the top piece and have that done..just a thought!
The company is only about 10 minutes from me so it wouldn't be a problem to take and bits and pieces down there...at the moment i believe theres about a weeks turnaround when you take into account the laquer spraying etc...
I think what i'll do is get a couple of pieces of my trim done and post the pics so you can see what it's like in the flesh ( so to speak ) and then i'll get a price for a bulk order...
Let me know
Cheers

Gents,
There will definately be a camaro show area on the Saturday and sunday. I'm personally going down on the friday to put the stakes in the ground. I'm allowing for around 20 cars. See you there.

Ok all, as promised, new stripe piccies.
40 quid, from Signs and Graphics in Liecester. (cheap, because we use them for all of our event and race cars at work) He was doing a job at work for us, so he fitted them on the spot!

Thanks Andy! You'll see it soon, my friend! only a few weeks for Easter.
Which Camaro are you bringing? also, will you be there for the weekend?
The stripes look better in the metal than in the photo's, the light wasn't good, the photo's were done when i got home from work! despite how they look, the ends of the stripes are level, not at an angle, its just the shape of the bonnet that makes them look that way in photos.
the application of the Vinyl is stunning, not a bubble or wrinkle anywhere!
Good luck for the 3rd.
Phil.

Where will the Camaro area be? Make it near the Pontiac Owners Club, which is as you look down the main field with the marquee behind you is on the left. on the next main feeder road.
Also the weekend of May the 15th, is teh Classic American meet at Shakespeare County Raceway. I will be going on the Sunday if anyone is interested in taking their cars down the strip!
Cheers
