Welcome, it's thirdgens, not just Camaro's. Just seem to be more of the Camaro's over here and active on the boards. Powermite is bringing his Stunning TA as well!
See you there!
See you there!
Dr G,
I'm there on Friday to arrange with Harry Tune (CEO AACUK) a show area for Camaro's/Birds. At this time I have absolutely no idea where that will be, but I'm going to try and get some space next to the Pontiac Owners Stand, for some continuity. I'm going to reserve about 20 cars, there are 5-7 cars from this board, plus the same again from the AACUK board.
There'll be a marshall there from Saturday to give directions.
Look forward to seeing you all there!!
Paul

Almost finished, it's at the bodyshop as we speak, picking it up on Thursday. I'm having the whole car re-laquered, so it should look nice.
This is how it was
This is after I fitted the "new" wing.
The bodyshop (Bromford Auto's, Birmingham) will also be painting the "new" wing mirror. I got the reclaimed parts from Oldcott motors, in Stoke On Trent.

You have done well to get get your car fixed in such a short time. It isnt easy getting parts fast for our cars but its surprising what a few phone calls can find. A new coat of laquer should make the car look like new mind red is a terrible colour for fadeing.
I have done a few jobs on my car over winter including making my own subframe connectors and a 3 point strut brace.
Also reprogramed my ECU to an Aussie code used in their Holdens as it removes the need for the MAF sensor and allows better tunning for my LPG powered motor.
Unfortunately its too long a drive for me to get to most shows but the North east club has small shows at Stockton and Saltburn so it gives me a chance to see some other yanks.
Have a good weekend
Simon

Simon,
Just looked up Richmond, that is well North! I'm in Rotherham tommorow, and will be visiting Andy Fanshawe in Chesterfield on the way down.
Can you mail me some pictures on your SFC's. You and Andy, and ZZ, plus others, are way ahead of me in terms of practical "doing stuff", so I'm learning. My Mig welder arrived a week ago but it's still in the box.......I was changing a wing, OK!

Paul you'll see the SFC's in person on Sunday. Well done on the wing! Quick work there my man and getting more dangerous with the spanner by day
Wife and baby are coming along for the ride on Sunday too so if I go a bit vague about anything asked about mods on the car, it is probably because she doesn't know about them
Almost finished waxoyling underneath- it's a great feeling to know your baby is protected.
Looks like it may be a scorcher this weekend too! Bring it on..

Paul,
The SFC's ain't nothing special. Just 1 1/4 square tube welded along the sills and connecting to the real LCA mount and the box section at the front.
Been out for a drive this evening and taken the camera with me. Hopefully you'll get these pics. Notice the strut brace I made which is an easy thing to make with that new welder.

Paul, looks like she's coming along nicely- love the rear window tint
Still waiting for the confirmation so I can log in to AAC- I have broadband at work. Annoying as I spent some time writing a response to the Spring Nats thread.
Meant to say earlier the black stripes look 'Bad ***' on your car phillsoldmobile. Look forward to seeing her in the flesh!

whaaaay!
Sounds really easy and quick doesn't it?! "sprayed the lot"!!!
I was going to say, lucky git, but after that accident, I don't think it would be appropriate!
What's that saying? Every cloud has a silver lining?
Does it look better than before?
Andy.
PS. Took the RS up the M1/M18 to Doncaster today. Went well but the temperature of these V8's (especially a new engine) rise really quickly when in traffic (standstill on M18 to M1 "slip road"). As soon as fan cuts in, it cools down quick though.
The garage has a nice red 350 TPI powered '87 Corvette convertible there. Just had both head gaskets changed. I asked if he would swap it for a 1999 Peugeot 406! My Wife wouldn't be too pleased though. Instant divorce.

Andy,
It looks fantastic!
You need shades in the dark
To be on the safe side, I wired in a manual fan switch (The TGO tech article way), and added my own air dam which was missing..This makes a big difference on motorway running. It keeps the temp down to about 170, somwhere around the quarter marker. My fan coped OK before, but the air dam just keeps a more constant 170 ish temp.
Knock one up tommorow!

a handy tip;
If you want to kick the fan in manualy, switch the air con to bi level - at speeds under 40 mph, it will turn the fan on.
(untill i get round to wiring in a manual fan switch, its the only wat to kick my fan in)

Guys,
Saw Harry Tune today at billing, and he has generously donated 15 car spaces to the Camaro area. (I say generously because Billings normal activity is 110% booked, so Harry has had to give up half of the space he normally gets in the second field.)
Anyway the dedicated area is in a Top prime spot, right next to the main marquee, and immediately behind the trader stands that line the road. The space is desgined to take 15 cars in single file, going down the road. So that means the cars nose points into the field, and the rear end at the trader stands. Harry also said he was making a space between the trader stands, so that means you can drive down into the trader stand road, and hook a left just after passing the main marquee. (You probably wouldn't be able to work your way up to it if you came onto the gravel road that intersects the main field.)
As a side note, I have never been to billing on anything other than the Sunday, and whilst I could guess there wouldn't be that many cars on Friday, there were about 15 cars max! by Lunchtime, and of those 6 were 3rdgens.
If it pishes down Sunday I'll give Monday a go, but I don't fancy getting out of there with all the campers exiting as well!

GUYS.
Sunday is my only real chance to get to Billing but if the weather is crap,i'll probably give it a miss.
I'm off to France over Mayday holiday and I want to renew my front shocks as the one has a death rattle. These are Konis but i had to wait weeks to get them(5 years ago).
Do any of you know where i can buy something like Bilstein adjustables in this country. If not i'll order from the US and hope they arrive within a week or so.
cheers

Count the first Camaro out guys! Reasons?
1) Clutch release bearing failure after 280 miles! No parts avaliable until after Tuesday. Little bit p****ed off about this. Somebody is going to die for this. Luckily it went on my own driveway this morning. As if this isn't enough;
2) Weather forecast crap.
3) Don't fancy entertaining a 5 month old and 5 year old all day in crap conditions.
4) Intermittent VATS failure. I'm looking into it now.
5) Decided to fit aero spoiler to rear in next few days (starting today), so there will be many welding scars along with the sad looking paint that is on it now. Ask Paul how pathetic the car looks at the moment!
6) Just got a quote to fix the auto trans of our 4 year old Peugeot at £1500.
I'm having a bad car week this week fellas.
At least there's one good thing to come out of this: I could try to beat my record of 35 minutes to remove the T5 trans!!
Hope you all have a good day there, be it Sunday or Monday.
Regards.
Andy.
PS I'm just going to go out and thrash the car with a big branch.
PPS Anyone planning to attend the Newark Americana this year?

Powermite,
I dont think Bilstein do adjustables the best adjustables are Koni and Tokico 5-way adjustables (which I have ). They have been on for over a year without a problem and adjust from a Cadillac ride to serious dash, t-top rattle type of ride.
Do a search to see what people recommend. Cheapest are I think KYB. Just looked in new Summit catalogue $119.95 front $89.95 rear.
I doubt you'll find anything in the UK. I found stock type ones at about £100 each
Andy,
My car is a 350 with all the options I think except leather. I'm more of a Sunday cruiser so drag strips aint really my scene. I dont think its all that fast.
Phil,
I'll give you a shout if I'm down your way. Have you been to Fins 'n' chrome in Stockton? Its nothing special about 30 cars or so. But free entry and local. 23/24/25 May
Can someone take some pics of you all at Billing please? As I'm not going I'd like to see what I'm missing.
Damn hope you get a few more than 15 cars..
Newark is within my range.

I should be at billing by 11am Saturday morning at the latest. I'll bring my digi camera, so we will have some photo's, plus i'll try to persuade Toby and a few of the other Northampton guys (we have 6 tirdgens in Northampton AAC
) to fill out the camaro area.
Spent the entire day polishing my car, and Dads 96 350 Tahoe. Both look brand new.
I'm going to give Avon Park a miss, its a little too close to thirdgen 03, and i want to save as much as possible for that. (its either that, or the summer nationals)
How about we all try again to meet at the Summer Nationals at billing?

Tokicas should be OK. I set mine at 2 most of the time and 3 occasionally. 4 is a bit too hard and never tried 5. Oh and 1 felt like driving the car when the previous shocks were broke.
Tokicas adjust at the top which makes adjustment easy. I think the Konis need adjusting from below?
A bit of advice for you when fitting.. Put plenty of tape around the top of the shock to protect the plastic adjuster otherwise when you poke it up from under the wing it can get chewed up a bit. BTDT

Hi Guys, thought I'd just stop by & say hello to everyone here in the UK. I'm from Dundee, up here in Scotland.
Yes, uk89camaro, we do our best to support the AACUK forum, I have always from the start stuck by in the hope it would get more popular & it sure has now.
Well I have an 85 Transam,305 v8,black,auto. Very little mods except an aftermarket T-Top roof, & of course the under the rear bumper fog light which I really don't mind at all, I prefer to try to keep my rear lights as near to original as possible, Turn signals are frenched into the bumper (that came with the car).
Best examples of light mods was on a 79 transam I had several years ago, the outer rear lights were made into turn signals & to this day it is the best classy modification I have ever seen. Sold that transam to a guy called Mario in Leeds. Great car, would be very tempted to swap my 85 for the 79.
But I'm sure I'll keep the 85 transam, but need to improve the interior, new seats etc, & some nice personal touches.

boydmutch,
Welcome (ok you've 22 posts, so you not brand spanking new!
), great to hear from you. How do you go on for shows up your neck of the woods?
p.s. It appears we have started a new thread (shown in Phils post above), I think that non broad- band users might be getting a little pi$$ed at the refresh rates!
We also have an e-mail into TGO to get a UK section added to their regional boards, hope that works out OK.
Keep in touch.

Hi Uk89Camaro... the email into thirdgen.org to get a UK section sounds a great idea & one that gets my vote. Let's keep our fingers crossed they give us guys the go-ahead.
Well, shows up our neck of the woods are few & far between nowadays. Sure, there are plenty classic cars & picnic shows but for Detroit Iron not a great deal.we gave it a go 2 years ago, limited success, so I just play safe & go to the North East American Car Clubs "fins & chrome" @ Stockton-On-Tees every year.
Mind you, we do have a monthly cruise at Kirkcaldy KFC.
All the best.

well hes a sort of mate of mine and has rather a lot of money.Hes 67 years of age and drives a 400 bhp Skyline and has got fed up with it,as its not exciting to drive. So he wants mine just as a thrash about on weekends.Hes been building a garage to put it in but its taken longer than we thought,so thats why its still with me.Hes also said I can borrow it back whenever I want
