Glass Staining - How to remove?

I am looking for the best way to remove what looks like severe water spots off of my rear hatch glass. I have owned the car for the past 5 years and it has always had louvers on the rear hatch. I think these have contributed to the staining as it makes it obvoiusly more difficult to dry, though I have always taken the time to lift them and dry it.

The water spots have been there since I bought it, didn't think anything of it. I have attempted to scrub them off using a rough sponge only, as I didn't want to scratch the glass. Is there anything or any way to get this type of staining off?

Go to the hardware store and get some jewelers rouge and a buffing wheel.

I have this problem on the passenger side window. I can't
get the water spots out. I'll have to try that jewelers rouge ...
