Side exit Exhaust infront of wheels ruining rims??

i'm thinkin of having my exhaust come out infront of my rear wheels, (carndrv's old ride) but i heard that the fumes can tarnish or ruin your rims...apparently ford once tried it and they had to recall a bunch of vehicles due to rim damage..

anyone know if this is true??

I can see it happening if it is running rich, or smoking. The smoke, or carboon would build up on the rim maybe. Have you seen those cars driving around where the bumper is black above the exhaust outlet? Well, that stuff dosn't wash off to easily since it is etched/burned into the paint. So I am guessing that since there is a clearcoat or protective coating on the rim, that it could mess it up.

I'm not sure if I am right about any of that, but it sounds like a possibility to me.

I would need to see that! your rims get pretty hot from your disc brakes. (hard braking very hot) and ford still does the side exhaust jobs a few stangs and some of there new trucks.
