Hey i'm new here

Hi everybody. This look slike a nice place. I've been hangina roudn for about a week and decided to register. so for my first question. My borther bought an 82 iroc-z28 camaro yesterday it has a 305 bored .30 over making it a 350. Has lees then 30,000 miles on rebuild. It was originally a manual but converted to auto but clutch pedal, linkage are thier and shifter came withit. It now has a turbo 350 transmission with a b&m pro star shifter. Has a $150 pioner cassette player in it. With 2 $75 speakers. It has cragar ss rims with good tread on front and about 20% left on rear but he did get the matching tires to go on the rear that matches the front along with 4 rims off an 82 firebird, i beleive they are formula rims but i have no idea so if someone could post a pic of a formula rim and a gta rim or just standard or all i would appreciate it so i can let him know what rims they are. The front tires and matching rear tires are almost new. The cruise doesn't work and a/c not hooked up. It has t-tops. It is missing th elouvers on the hood. It has a spot or two of rust here and their but hardly noticeable They only thing body wise wrong is their is spots where the paint is chipped but no biggy their. The windshiel is cracked. IT goes have some cool etchings in the window though. Body only has 91,000 miles on it. My borther paid $1,400 for it the guy wanted $1,500 and that was without the stereo and tires. I know i don't hav epicture so fit yet fo ryu to look at but from wha ti have described do you guys hink its owrth what he paid? I beleive it was because i basically acted as his appraiser ont he deal. I don't know much about 3rd gens i'm more of a 2nd gen camaro guy so i'm looking forward to learning alot sinc ei will be the mechanic on this car. Thanks for all your opinions in advance.

Well just decoded the vin and sure enough not an iroc but it is a Z28, so do you think it is still worth the money? Or should my borther tak eit back to the guy he bought it from and tell him he wants his money back since it was mis repsresented to him. He even told me it was a iroc so i'm a witness. So what should i do guys PLEASE NEED TO KNOW QUICK ON THIS BY TOMMORROW IF POSSIBLE this is a very serious issue. Also i went and looked thourhg the windshield to check out the vin and the vin tag was missing what do i do about that? Coudl this be a serious issue. From what my borther said the bank even thinks its an iroc and so does the insurance company. I need to know if its worth the money or not with these issues at hand. Please respond with ay opinions.

Grr, how could I miss that one. I guess typing at 2am will do that.
You may have gotten a good deal, but seems like the guy lied to you a lot. That in itself would make me want to return it. Who knows what else he is lying about.

305 .030 over is like 310. No vin is a bad thing, and misrepresented is also very bad. I'd talk to the guy. Find out why there is no vin and why it has IROC Badging. Sounds like the guy lied to you. Also check the center console for RPO codes and decode them on this website.

EDIT: Oh and 82 did not have louvers.

The RPO code is in the center console usually glued to one of the sides. If yours is gone then you're gunna have to hunt down the build sheet. It's somwhere in the car. ALwayus a different place. I don't know about hte trim tag. Good luck. But I think you got taken on the deal.

no rpo sheet in a 82, youd have to find the build sheet, probably not worth the effort

If you want the guy to tell you the truth about the car, hold him at gunpoint and tell him to give you the answers. If not. I'd return it (if possible).

Might want to get a Carfax report on this car. Learn the history of the car. The missing Vin tag is serious. In Illinois where I live you could have trouble passing theemmisions test because of no window vin tag, not to mention that every cop is gonna look for that tag once you start getting stopped(which we all do because our cars cause a lot of attention). Also since there is no such thing as a 82 IROC I would wonder what other kinds of false badges or the like are involved. Seems it comes down to how much your brother wants this car. There are still a lot of 3rd gens out there that can be had for $1400 to $2500. Most are in simular to better condition to what you have described. Just do your homework as my teacher use to say.

ok...

my dad works for the state as a lawyer.. he says that all states will give the car a new vin plate if you apply for it.. the car is a good deal, but it needs work. the bagdes make it seem like a sweeter car & will have alot of attention drawn to it... in the end, you can get you car re-VINed , you can fix the things that are wrong with the paint & body, but still the car is not a serious problem & should only be returned if you really realy feel the need to have an honest car sold to you. Every state will revin the car for you, if they dont want to you can apply to the federal department of trans & it will be vined. good luck
