Under the hood light mod ?

Has anyone done an "under the hood " light mod. I mean something like replacing the dead light under the hood for some flourescent lights ( not colored, thats wack), something to give the engine some real light. Im doing a plenum polish (still) and would like to put a set of decent lights under the hood that will show its brilliance, and that can be powered off of 12 volts. Any ideas ?

i would say about any small neon tube should mount to give off enough light to show off your work streetglow bulbs are protected by lexan so that heat can't get to it i would try them.

First of all do you have an under hood light? if so then, you can cut off the old one and install a florecent light with housing.

If not then I installed an underhood light, "it was factory" all I did was hook it up and then run a wire directly to the positive connector of the battery with a 4 amp inline fuse in between. I'm sure you can do the same wuith a florecent light, just use a fuse appropriate with the power of the light.

I just set up some lights under my hood for shows. I had 4 red egg lights from JCWhitney. (I know you don't like colors, but it went well with the underbody neons) I had them in the front bumper beside the fogs to make a red glow, but the new neon kit took care of that, so I took them out and put them in the 4 corners of the engine compartment. The produce a neat even glow at night and are more classy looking than neons in the engine bay. They really set off all our polishing work. When I get the mirrors under the hood, they should produce some nice lighting effects as they reflect. I did not take and direct shots of them, but in this pic you can see them glowing and lighting up the hood. I will try to get some shots tonight of them.

I also installed one of those retractable truck lights. Darn thing will reach to the rear of the car easy and has a built in magnet on it so it will hang anywhere you have metal. Little more challenging when you have a fiberglass hood though.

You can order the lights from the dealer or get one from a junk yard. Heck there may even be some aftermarket ones out there. My boyfriend got mine a few years back at a trade show type thing. I wouldn't steal one from your dad's truck.

i was thinking about this for awhile too!! i have a ram air style hood and i am planning on installing a green neon light under the hood of my car so you would be able to see the light from the holes in the ram air.i don't know how this will look but there is only one way to find out

I wanted to get my ram air holes to glow red. I was having some problems trying to decide how to mount mine, so you could not see the tubes, but where you would not block air flow. There is a baffle built into mine that is in the way. It keeps the rain from getting to the air filter.
