Custom Body Work

A few days ago I started a topic called Daring to be original. The response that I got wasn' t exactly what I had in mind. I guess I should have been more specific. I was looking more in particular to customized body work to the original body as oppossed to just bolt ons like fiberglass hoods, wings, and ground effects. Shanon's REDRAIF and SCAUFFIEL's front bumper are good example of what I was looking for, but I already know about them. Does anyone else have vents cut into a stock hood, or have them in the fenders? A customized bumper or ground effects? Customized Taillights? Wide Fender Flares? Spoilers integrated into the body.

Here is a picture of a pre 84 trans am with Kobel ground effects and more importantly a a wing that is fused to the body making it look like the Acura NSX spoiler.

Hey Odyssey, look at the bottom middle of the hatch and you can see that the glass has a mounting points that allow the hatch glass to raise, but not normally like most F-Bodies

Looks like the hatch opens like on a C4 vette... IE, just the glass.

The Firebird wing looks pretty cool... got a better pic of it?

Not too into that Camaro though. The tail lights are nice, but the wing is a bit too high and rounded. Something a bit edgier would fit it better.

Yeah, don't like the camaro wing, but I like the mod done to the rear lights. Something different.

That Camaro was done by GM, in the late 80s. The hatch glass opens, so there is still some rear access. I wasn't too crazy about it (saw it at the Gathering in Atlanta), but it did have some neat touches.

On the Camaro it looks like he retrofitted a latch,at the bottom, to the glass so that he can pop it via remote button like on fbodies with the power hatch.

That is a beautiful Firebird.

I like the way the rear-quarter is inline with the door. I think it looks even better than the stock wheel arches, which look pretty good.

The camaro rear was a one of a kind.

Look on High performance Pontiac this month. They have a concept SunTour Firebird.

Here is a custom bird nose:

Is that the one that was in Gm High Tech Performance a few months ago (well, probably 6+) ? Any idea who made it? I think the parking lights are C4 Vette.

That Trans Am has the worst color combo I have ever seen before. Lime green and Burgundy, uugh!! Not a fan of the Kobel Predator kit either. For some strange reason I love that car. Its like it had been put together in just the right way to make it work. That Trans Am looks more like a super car than your average thirdgen IMO.

Oh, thanks redraif for posting that picture of the Trans Am with the filled in nose. I had the magazine with the car in it, but I accidently threw it out.

OTP out of Germany. http://www.otp-vondracek.de/default.htm
Their site is under construction right now, but at least it means they are still around.

I'm looking into pricing. I emailed them, but have not heard back. I have a friend in freight forwarding. He has a buddy in Amsterdam. I will see if they can find out anything.

that body kit on the green/burgundy trans am rocks! it reminds me of the a$$ ugly truxarosa kit for s10 blazers, but on that car it WORKS. and that rear wing looks sweet too, i might try something like that, but i won't connect the wing to the rear quarter so that i can still open the hatch. also, i'm still workin on those kind-of-clear tai lights, so far so good.

I had forgotton all about that OTP German body kit for firebirds. I saw it on a kitcar website. As much as I like that kit, the shipping is really expensive and it takes weeks for it to arrive. If you bought a body kit from Japan, the shipping could cost as much as $1000 depending on the size of the kit.

You don't by chance remember where? All I want is the nose. If I can get someone in America that deals for them I can get an idea of price. My guys might be able to cut shipping costs. He was thinking $100 to import the nose. Worth it to me. Then I can make a mold and mod it like I want. I'm not interested in the wide body kit.

Sorry Redraif, but it was 2 years ago the last time I saw that site and it took me 2 hours of searching through kitcars just to find it. I want that front nose as badly as you do. I think it would look more custom and aggressive than the Razzi front air dam I'm planning on getting.

I was gonna post some pics of the K1 Evo I and Evo II but I read your post again and saw you were only looking for mods on the stock Body. So here is a pic of Revlimits hood. I think its a great design. He took a stock RS hood, cut it and bent it down like an inverted cowl and then cleaned it up HIMSELF. Definately different from your average hood, but it has been proven functional by the sport compact scene. Some might wonder about water getting in the engine bay, but it only gets on the radiator fans. He's had it on his car for months and no problems.

Don't be surprised if you do see a body kit coming from japan. They have a demand for muscle cars their similar to that of the ***** craze here.

I like Hawaii too, but I would not want to live there. I can not stand heat and humidity. I like cold, but not freezing. Once my car is finished (paint, engine, bodywork), I plan on driving across the country. There are many beautiful places in the U.S. that I have still to see. I order a lot of stuff online, and I don't think I could afford to pay $20 shipping for $10 item.

I love hoods like Revlimits. I wanted to do that to my flat firebird hood. I love the look of flat vented hoods. Although the picture is of a 200SX, it shows the kind of hood I would like to mold my hood into.

Yeah those are great too!! Other styles I have seen are the ones like Rev's hood but one reverse cowl on each side of the hood. I've also seen hoods like the one on the car you posted but I haven't seen them on a domestic car yet. Go for it man!!
