Anybody Else been trying this?

Am I the only one other than the 2 of us in this thread in B+I ( https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=123288 ) messing around with custom flame gauge faces? I just did this one tonight, and am probably gonna try to make a matching tach tomorrow night after I fix the errors still on this one. See if you catch my mistakes without reading about them in the other thread, they are quite obvious to me but thats because I made them... These should look killer behind a silver trim plate with blue LEDs providing light... which is what I'm planning on doing sooner or later.

The nice thing about 3G gauges is that they're not backlit, the light shines over from the sides. So you can put any overlay on you want to, the numbers don't have to be clear or anything. I'm gonna do the blue LED thing too. But first gotta fix the radiator, struts, and pay my insurance. Argh I always get hit with expenses this time of year.

Slicks n Chix: Thanks! I've got one word for where I got it: Grokster. Its Kaaza without all the BS that Kaaza installs without telling you. Still has a few pop up ads but not that many, make sure when/if you install it to uncheck all the boxes for the little companion programs it comes with. Trust me, you don't want them!

I bet those would look awesome if you put a blacklight in the dash. At night the white would glow and the numbers and flames would look black. Pretty sweet huh!?!

Crap I just noticed the 10 km/h is still on the speedo. Oh well, easy fix.

Animated would be sweet but don't know how the hell i'd ever do it. Maybe if you replace the gauges with LCD panels... and have some sorta data acquisition setup, I belive you can get stuff like that from this company called Quatech... you could rig something. Just have a laptop or small PC... use the data scq. software to display the stuff up on the screens either through VGA or a serial/paralell aux. screen controller like the PC mod guys use, like VSS tach and other sensor readings and what not. I've seen a guy do this before, he had 2 screens (Off to the sides though not in place of the gauges) showing injector cycle duty, knock sensor sine wave and everything. It wasn't one of thsoe stand alone computers, it was controlled by a car mount PC. It was pretty wicked. If you had this you could probably layer some sorta animation in the background but if you had that sorta instrument setup, who'd care about the backgrounds!

Or, use the LCD panels as backlighting on semi-transparent gauge faces, and have whatever going on the LCDs.... but then mounting the gauges through the LCD wouldn't work so good...

Just some wild off the top of the head thoughts that I'm never gonna even attempt.

Yeah no crap that'd cost as much as I paid for the car in the first place. I'm just being hypothetical.

why don't you download the demo www.adobe.com and then cheat. Just tell it to preview in the web browser and tell it what file type, size and quality to preview it at. Then right click the image and save. The demo has all of the real version's stuff...you just can't save. But you can if you follow my instructions.

Hey..funyn that you mentioned the silver trim piece. Last week I saw a picture of the navigator interior. They have a piece of brushed nickel trim on the console. Looks really nice. I have been toying with the idea of cutting aluminum trim for the shift-plate, ashtray, radio and guages. Have you fleshed this idea out at all or researched anyone who makes these pieces?

I've seen the pic of the interior here with the guy who had aluminum trim in his 3rd gen. I did not really like it, but I think it can be done way better and look really simple, clean, and cool.

Feedback....

Haven't messed with it for a while, been really busy this last week or 2 as you might've noticed. I'll get back to messing with it sooner or later.
