How would you guys feel about this?
What would you guys think if I put aftermarket IROC's on my TA?? I've been rim shopping with little success and I just thought of this tonight, I think it'd look pretty sweet - sorry about the crappy pic, I'm a ****ty photochopper
I actually have thought about the GTA's before..... very hard to find around here and I'm weary of buying used rims over the web ya know. You guys really don't think I should go with the ROC's?? I thought the silver went well with my white car....
On a side note, I saw your post about your third gen gathering Mark... looks like you guys had a great time. I wish there were meetings around here, but unfortunately although there are quite a few F-bodies... I don't think many care about their cars
Its just what gets em from A to B until it rusts to death
Anyways, thanx for the replies guys

Personally, I would go with the 18 inch IROC. If they made the GTA wheel in an 18 inch size I would have bought them. I have never seen the 18" IROCs in real life. Since you have a TA, I would not go with the GTA wheels. They are a little to common on the birds with ground effects. They are noticable on Formulas though. Besides, I would like to see a Firebird with the IROC 18s.
Devian, you and I think alike my man
Although I dunno about 18's.... might be a little to drastic for me-plus convincing my old man (I'm only 17) that I need 18's could be challenging. But I do agree with GTA's being to common, off the top of my head I can think of three birds with them. And I know for a fact that I would be the only Firebird in town with 16" chrome ROC's

I have the black GTAs (all front wheels) on my base firebird. Although they are stock wheels they have a custom look to them since I don't have ground effects and most of the time you only see GTA wheels on birds with ground effects. You may be the only one in town with Iroc rims on a firebird, but if could wrestle with your dad into letting you get the 18s, you would be the only one in town with 18" Irocs. You would get a lot of points in the "Ohh" and "Wow" department. They are not as drastic as you may think. They are big, but they look killer. Heres a pic of 18s on a lavender IROC. If I had your car I would definately consider them. I have no v8 and no ground effects, double bummer!

Yur right man, that does look killer, but check this **** out
I think i just feel in love! 18's would rock! Although I'm not really thinking it will happen, I will definately talk to my dad now. Aside from the fact that he's not into the huge rims I'm not so sure he'll let me spend $1k on rims ALONE. I'm sure I'll have enough trouble getting the 16's for $775. But negotiations will definately take place

I can understand your Dad's point of view since you are 17 and will probably be thinking about college or something. The 18s will cost you at least $1000 for the wheels and $500 for tires. $1500 is a lot of money to be putting on your car. The 16" Chrome Irocs aren't bad, they just won't make people's necks break from looking at them. If you plan on keeping your car for a long time, I would consider the 18s. But if you plan on getting another car soon, the chrome Irocs are the way to go. In my case, since my v6 bird is my first car, which means its very special to me, I will never sell it or junk it no matter how bad it turns out. I wanted to put ROH 17 X 9.5 ZS wheels on mine, but I have to consider that I am in college and I could use the money. Every dollar that I don't spend on my slug is money that could go into buying an already fast car.
You never know when you will need money for emergencies.

I see my dad's way of thinking too. I haven't told him about the ROC's yet, but when Itold him I was looking for new wheels at all I kinda got an eye roll. Prolly a really stupid point of view to those of you that arein the 'real world' already, but the way I look at it..... I have no bills or responsibilites and a steady flow of cash from my job (I put in close to full time hours regularly).... I'm gonna blow my money while I can ya know. Cause once I'm out on my own I won't be able to
Might be an immature kid mind set, but hey.... I'm still an immature kid, so... bring on the ROC's
Also, I don't plan on selling the bird. I did sell the Sport Coupe I had before the bird, but it was a V6 and was a little to much work for me. But I have my 305 now and I plan on keeping this car for a long, long time.
Yes, the skunk hit my car

I think they would look good... just not too big like on that purple IROC above.
I'm guessing that a set of 18" tires (alone) mounted and balanced would run over $800 (and $1000 easily). I'm just going by Tirerack and their prices are usually a lot cheaper than local (at least here in the Tampa area). I am not saying "don't get them" but rather "don't kid yourself."
Hope you have a good alarm system, too.

Thanks for all your thoughts guys. I'm sure I want these rims now, 16's for sure - 17 if possible. But I'm not so sure it'll be anytime soon- just found out like 10 mins ago that my grandpa passed. Knew it was comin but still a mind job
So.... mods on the bird will be stopped for a while.
In the meantime, this rim comes in 16x8... What size backspacing do I need, and also what size tire should I run? Thanks again for all the help

i dont usually plug a company, BUT,
whalen tire has some good deals on their site. they also do stuff on ebay, or at least they did a while ago. got 17" rims and tires for my "other" car there. ended up paying 63 a tire shipped and about 105 a rim shipped.

Id go 16s or 17s when you get to 18s and up, the star looks too skiny to me and the rubberband tire look doesnt flow too well on the fbody. Heres mine on 16s
I have some IROC wheels and buy them used. I refinish them and polish them. I sell them either way polished or refinished. I have a set of 87 and 89 I am working on right now. I sell them for $500.00 to $600.00 depending on what they cost me. To refinish the face of your wheels as long as there is no lip damage is $300.00 plus shipping. That would be 4 wheels. You should think about doing them yourself if you have the time. Takes about 40 hours of work to strip and polish 4 wheels. You will have some sore hands when done.
Sorry to hear about your grandfather.
Are you in Mi? Looks like a Mi plate on the front of your car.

Get 17" for the front with 245/40/17's and get 18" for the rear wearing 275/40/18's. That what i'm going to get when i get rims although probably not the irocs.
