I'm thinking of buying a 86 IROC. Here's what I know about it.

LG4/5 speed
t-tops
small dent on right fender?? (she said right panel, I assume fender)

Owner claims rebuilt tranny and new clutch
Owner claims previous owner had engine rebuilt.

The clock says 41k, most likely 141k. I e-mailed inquiring about rebuild, and how many miles on that.

I ran a carfax report, and 2 things stood out.

1. The car has been in an accident. Could have been a small one explaining the dent.

2. Possible odometer rollback. Easily explained though. If I figure the other way, it works to 90k miles in 6 years, or almost 15k a year, which I have done on a car so I'd say thats legit.

I haven't seen the car in person yet, so that's all I know.

Asking price is $2800. I'm thinking with the accident on record I can talk her down to at least $2500.

Should I take a look at this car or forget it?

 

I'm no expert at this kinda thing, but I say look at it. It can't hurt anything ya know. Besides you might find something to make the car worth while that the owner doesn't know about....

 

I dunno, even 2500 seems kind of a lot for that car. But then again theres no harm in looking at it, check it out adn see how bad the "dent" is and based on that make a decision
