Finally a question i couldnt find an aswer to...

i've looked around the site a bit and i've finally got a question i couldnt allready find. anyhoo its about that heat protection thingy underneath your hood. how important is that to keep? and if it is really important where can i get a new one, or how can i clean it? its really making my engine compartment dirty. hopefuly i'll get some pics of my car up soon, i've ran out of stuff i can do to it (low on funds, 17 y/o highschool student without a job...) thanks alot

I tore mine off a long time ago when I had the stock hood. As for the fiber hood, it never had one. I dont think its that important.

Your hood is not going to get that hot. It's metal. Its there so that it doesnt get hot and have hot air coming off I think. Keeps the heat in the engine bay and not everywhere else. I guess.

Its not gonna hurt anything.

you dont need it on stock, and you definately dont need it on fiberglass... that stuff probably weighs more than the hole hood...

You can get a new one from your dealer for $40 bucks or so as I recall. If you don't want to spend the money don't replace it. There are a lot of people driving around without their hood insulator.

I thought it was just a sound deadener more so than insulator for heat.

What if you live in Texas and the sun beams down about 110% on your hood for 10 hours. Dont you think it going to get a little warm in there?

I have the dynomat hoodliner also. I think it is worth. On my old hood (before a wreck) i didn't have a hood liner and the paint started to crack around the louvers about a month after i took it off. So i would either replace it with a stock one, which doesn't help with noise very much, or get a dynomat that does help with noise. I've had the dynomat hoodliner on for a year now and it is still stuck on there good.

Besides it being a sound deadener doesn't it protect the hood's paint from engine heat?
