LT1 and LT4 hood clearnace issues

i'm going to put in an LT4 and i'm worrying a little about hood clearance, and getting enough cold air to the engine. does anyone who's done the swap think that an LT1 or LT4 deserves more room ? like the one that this hood offers ? i may get it anyway but having a reason is always nice too =D

There won't be any hood clearance issues with either one. They sit lower than most of the stock carb/tbi setups.

thx for the info guys ... that would really suck to try and close the factory GTA hood and crack an intake runner =D

i think i may still get it anyway bc i like it and it'll be different. i haven't seen more than one firebird here with it, and maybe it'll give my car some individuality

LOL, you couldnt crack that intake with your hood. Soon i'll get some pics of the motor with STB for a tpi car over it, looks really funny, i could crawl between my stb and the intake, heres a reg pic of mine to show how small it is.

lol that's crazy ! i think that i may want to keep my current hood after all ... it's straight, perfect/no rust, and makes my car look beatable :sillylol:

If there's that much room, i can probably make a ram air system off my current GTA hood by cutting the metal under those screens and making a filterbox ... do you think it would be able to draw enough cold air there ? i don't really want to run dryer ducting to ground level and i sure as hell don't want the restrictive factory airbox

that'd be great if you could post a pic with the STB ... is it one that was designed for TPI cars ?

Yes its a BMR 3 point, not at home, so hopefully tomorrow I can get you some But theres about 6" between the intake and the STB i'd guess.

What about an LS1 with the Lingenfelter supercharger? Think that will fit under the hood?
