need your opinions on hoods...pics?

Hey guys, the paint on my 91 Firebird's hood is fading, and rather than paint that one, I guess its time to step up to a decent looking one. I am torn though. I have the plain-jane hood now. What do you think would look better.. a gen 1 ram air hood or a cowl hood? Anybody with pics of these put em' up, try to sway me one way or the other. I CAN'T DECIDE! Are either functional? I am talking about the ones ASCD would have. Help a brutha out!

The Ram Air 1 looks really good on a 91/92...its not functional in that its sealed to the airbox (only the Suncoast has a sealed airbox), but it does let in cooler air so its "sort of" functional. To me the cowl hood is too boxy looking for your bodystyle.

I like the Ram Air I a whole lot. The II is good too, but depends on the style of TA.

anyone got decent pics of a cowl hood on a firebird? I thought I saw a red one not too long ago that was in the classifieds, but can't seem to find it. Any pics of the gen II on a 91-92?

Your gonna have to search for the cowl yourself, I had enough trouble finding pics of them 85-90 let alone 91-92!

IMO cowls don't look good on firebirds, they are a chevy thing, leave them on chevy, and leave the ram air on pontiac, thats just me though...

I actually like the look of the gen II hood on that bird a lot, gives it a Patrick Ewing huge nose agressive look. Only problem is, you have to wait 6-8 weeks to order one, and how long after to actually get it, plus, looking at that pic, the fitting looks sh*tty. None of the lines line up around the headlights, nose and fenders. Just the car or the hood??

I wish someone would make a Ram Air II style hood with the folowing changes from the GT Auto hood:

1) Make the scoop further forward...better still, offer a custom bumper cover with it that blends in with the hood openings, like on a 4th gen. I approached GT Auto about doing this, and they didn't seem too interested. This would also allow more room for a functional, sealed airbox.

2) Make the transition from the hoodscoop to the hood more gradual...while I like the hood style, the raised portion looks added on, it doesn't flow well with the rest of the hood.

No offens to anyone who has this hood...I still think it looks good...but it could be improved upon, like anything else.

If someone doesn't do it I may have to step up and do it myself...if I could get my hands on a damaged real RA II hood (4th Gen), I'd graft it onto a stock hood, make a mold off of it, then lay up my own hood. The scooped section from a 4th gen bumper cover could be cut out and maybe grafted into a stock 3rd Gen TA cover, using one of those urethane welding kits....hmmm. May give me something to work on over the winter.
Considering the drivetrain and suspension I'm going to put in this thing, its going to need a fresh and aggressive look!
