What do you guys wash your baby with? I just got new paint....
I think I'm gonna wash my car for the first time with it's new paint today, and I'm wondering what you guys recomend. I'm probably gonna go buy some new mits for it. I've got the meguiars wash stuff. I pulled it out a couple weeks ago to wash another car and all of a sudden it was really foggy??? It wasn't that clear purple it normally is. My friend's never did that.... should I buy a new bottle or is this something normal? And I know you aren't supposed to wax the car for awhile, but I heard that all soaps have a little bit of wax in them... is this true? Thanks guys. Any tips or suggestions on products to use would be great...

Hey there Congrats on the new paint . As a body shop manager & fellow car nut, my recommendation to you is to wash it as you would any car, using only automotive car washing soaps. The amount of wax in these products are so microscopic they wont hurt anything. Be sure to use clean wash mits & chamois or soft towells. Other than that the rest should be normal maintance. Good Luck, Joe

I wouldn't use the mits, but that is just me. Just stick to 100% cotton cloths and you'll be fine.
I like the Megs Deep Crystal Wash, purple stuff.
Or their Gold Class wash.

The mits are better than the spongues (sp). Just make sure you wash your rims last, and rinse the mitt really good before you wash. Don't wax for about 90 days. Any pics yet??

Another thing I do, as a precaution against swirl marks, is to rinse the car off and lightly wipe loose dirt off under a stream of water before I start scrubbing with the soapy rag. This way I don't worry about some big piece of dirt making a big scratch. Also, I don't throw my wash rag into my bucket of clean, soapy water without at least wringing it out so I don't get the water dirty. After 13 years, the only swirl marks its gotten were from when other people washed it.
I would hose down first then wash with megs gel wash using a sponge starting from the top down!. use another sponge for the wheels & under cills. then hose off & let most of the water run off after that spray with BeadX & use a soft terry towling cloth to dry.
OH and do it in the shade or not in HOT sun.
OH and do it in the shade or not in HOT sun.
Unfortunately, some of us have no choice but to do it in the sun. When it's sunny, I do the roof and hood first, then the side facing the sun before it gets too hot. The side in shade is done last. To help reduce water spots from them drying before I can wipe them off, I'll rinse the soap off as usual with a water spray, then take the nozzle off the hose and let a gentle stream of water flow over the car. Most of the water will flow off and 99% of the water drops will go with it leaving fewer to dry and leave spots.
