1988 progression to 4th gen
the car is sweet, no doubt. but in all honesty and fairness i hate that paint job. and i truly dont understand the logic behind buying a hard top and turning it into a convertable. the car is weet, i dont think ne one can boast that they could have done it better. But alot of these people who are praising this car for the conversions are the same purist who hate when people try to make or clone there rs into z28 or there firebirds in to trasn ams. when this car has a z28 badge, mostly 4th gen styling and just the over all look of a 91,92 z28/4thgen hybrid convert when it began life as a hard top iroc. I ask u whats the difference? i personal love the car and dont mind when people make rs into z's or sc into rs or z's but most people dont, yet they seem to worship this car which has appearently done the same thing.

if I am correct in 1988 you could not get an IROC as a T-top car.(ok... hubby corrected me... you could) A couple of years after having it my husband chopped the top and made it a t-top car. It's still an IROC by the vin #.
The convertible conversion was done mostly to get more points when we were showing the car with the ISCA. At that time we did any crazy mod to win the custom class. We finished out 3rd in custom in the United States after 5 years of showing the car. The paint was also for showing. The judges like custom graphics and we hate them, but flames have always been around and never seem to go out of style. We also have a 2002 SS vert, but my husband has always been in love with the 3rd gen bodystyle. He's had this car since new and will probably always have it.

Personally i love it when people intergrate the different types of camaros as well as 4th gen styling into there cars makes it seem custom yet still maintian that classic over all 3rd gen appearance.

I think it would be best just not to bring this kind of stuff up.

What was the point to bringing this up. I think all that will do is make people A) get upset with you, B) Start thinking about not liking this car as much as they did.

I thought that the article said that the car was put together from two crushed camaros, not purchased new?
Maybe it was a different 3rd gen, oh well.
Maybe you used a wrecked vert for the vert conversion, I'm too tired to remember.
I'll just have to read it again one day when I have time.
I just read in another post that you have ABS. What braking system do you have? How did you set it up? Did you have the ABS when you had the 3rd gen suspension, or are you using 4th gen brakes because you are now using a 4the gen suspension?
Thanks,
Jesse

Yes and No. It's an F40 style from Wings West. It was in the back seat of my car when I bought it. I'll take a $400+ wing for free anyday.

pm'd ya
geez, you guys and cable modems, I can't keep up.
KJ Rockz,
The owner that bought the wing purchased it with the intent of having the camaro look similar to the old roadrunners.

When will people understand that there is a difference between putting a sticker on something stating it is something else or simply making it something else. I own a berlinetta with ground effects because i like the look of ground effects. at the same time, i didnt badge the car as a z28. this guy has done nothing wrong in doing this. now if he had SS emblems on it...

that is an incredible amount, and it's not like he's throwing on dubs with pink striped leather interrior.
This guy is my freaking idol.

When we made the car into a convertible we purchased 2 wrecked convertibles for parts. we chopped the top off our 88 (again) and installed all the parts from the 2 verts. (also used the interior) This was around 1996. At this time we still had the TPI in the car.
Then in 2000 we tore the car apart again. We sold the street and performance TPI. At this time, we were done showing the car and Tim wanted to drive it. Bought a 97 Z and clipped the car our 88 from the floorboard forward. We used the suspension, motor/tranny and interier from 97. Used our same fenders and hood and front assembly. Since we used wiring harness from 97 we had the abs - airbags and brakes.
Now we are pulling out LS1 to update to LT1. Again we will be replacing the suspension and braking system to 2000 model.
Currently we are running Z06 rims and tires. WITH SS CENTERCAPS!

Killer Car!!!!!
This car looks killer in the pictures. I would love to see more of the conversion photos. I would also love to be able to see this car up close so i could see the craftsmanship & attension to detail. If its been a ISCA car then it has to be cool.

funny: I've read here a couple time about people switching badges. Sometimes you cannot tell the difference. But anyway I have not seen anyone do it until the other night. I was coming out of a bar and saw a 4th gen "SS" pull up that did not sound like an "SS". The fool had a single exhaust 4th gen RS and slapped some SS badges on it. Not fooling me.
Ok...back to the present topic..

slp had single exhaust as an option that "can" be less noisy and add more power. although i'm pretty sure what you saw was a v6.

how much of a PITA was it to install the 4th gen front clip? where both of them the same width? that opens up a whole new set of ideas for people now. how long will it be before someone takes a 4th gen nose and puts it on a 3rd gen.
