Your thoughts on white IROCs?
Yesterdya I found what might be my next car. What do you think of white '87 IROCs? This isn't any ordinary white though. The paint is 2 weeks old and it's the brightest white I've ever seen in my life. It almost blinded me when I saw it. It's about 5 times whiter than Artic White! If I get this car I'll have to sell my RS. I already have a buyer I think.........my girlfriend, Camaro Chick. I can then but it back from her in a few years hopefully in good condition still. If she buys it I'll only have to spend about $1800 to get the 'ROC. Here's some more info on the IROC:
1987
5.7 TPI
Glass t-tops
No side molding
power everything except seats
perfect glass
New IROC centercaps (just need to polish wheels!)
113,000 miles
New paint
Perfect grey leather interior (smells new even!)
91-92 front ground effect (Probably change it back)
Needs black headlight pockets
New emblems
Needs valve seals (dont we all?)
All stock
Looks unbelievable
The guy is asking $6200 firm, which is less than I paid for the RS 3 years ago. The RS needs fenders, door panels, paint, and some power, the IROC needs alomst nothing. What do you think? Would you go for it? I have pics, but they aren't scanned yet

Yeah, I tried to talk him down a little on the price but he wouldn't come down any. I guess I cant complain though because it has a 2 week old paint job.

$6,200 is kind of high for 113,000 miles
so what if the paint is two weeks old?
you can find the same car for $4,500-$5,000 with two year old paint and those miles.
biker
also where was it painted?
i don't know. sounds a little pricey; i'd be a little more satisfied if the paint were say a year old.
look on here how many have macco jobs done to turn around and gain some money.
that car without the paint would pull half that price. think about it before you buy. remember something is only worth what someone would pay.
according to bluebook and dealer trade in mine would go for less than 4,000 so you can't use that as a reason. just peice of mind. good luck.

Price is way too high for those miles! Look for problems in the miles coming ahead. The guy is trying to get the money back, thats what it sounds like. Why was it painted, why is he selling? Questions that should be asked. Just watch yourself on this one, i wouldn't buy it for that, no matter how desperate. Good luck with the decision.

I think the right white, in good conidtion and well kept is very good looking in a classy way.

I love it. I would have never said, I want a white car. My opinion has completely changed now... when I was in the market for a 4th gen I was definetly going to go with white.

I feel pretty confident that it's not a Maaco paint job. I talked to the guy for 30-45 minutes about the car and he seems like a perfectionist. He's a car guy and he likes to fix cars up and try to sell them for as much as he can get and then go on to another project. I saw this car at a swap meet (biggest one in GA). He said he was going to take it to the Turkey Run in Daytona if it didn't sell. (all you Florida guys should go take a look at it) the paint looks fine but I know that it might not later, it's a risk you always take buying a used car. I didn't see ANY flaws in the paint or body, and I did look very close. It looks like a pro paint job to me. And even if the paint isn't perfect and it needs some work in a couple years I'm still coming off better than I would fixing up the RS right now. It's a decision I"m going to have to think hard about but I dont want to miss out and have him sell it to somebody else. I guess I have to make a good decision, quick! I'm telling you though, it would be a top 10 or maybe top 5 stock car here at thirdgen.org!

Also, I checked for overspray....NONE. Not on the tailpipes or anywhere. Paint looks like a $2000+ job. The side molding has been removed, the holes were filled in perfectly. I looked under the car.....clean as can be, no damage or overspray. Under the hood.......you could eat right off the plenum, it also had a new liner under the hood. Interior.......seats have been redone with grey leather like original, the console lid needs to be replaced, other than that it's PERFECT. The guy said he's owned the car for 5 years and hasn't driven it a whole helluva lot. He said it runs perfectly and it is in perfect mechanical condition except for the puff of smoke at start-up, but most of our cars need new valve seal anyway, both of mine do! I dont think he's the kind of guy who wants to make a profit by making something look nicer than it really is. He didn't come off as that type of guy. Well, somebody here needs to encourage me or beg me not to buy this car, who's it gonna be? It's a phone call away.......
If he got the paint job done 2 weeks ago, I'm sure he remembers the people who did it, and they remember him........Go check out the source of the paintjob, if that is what is concerning you..........
$6,200 for a 113,000 mile car seems like a bit too much.........But I'm not there to see the condition it's in, a test drive should definetly been in order......

Who cares what we think? Obviously people have their own opinions on here. What do you like? Like you said, you are going to have to think about this decision. Good luck, and yeah, i like white "irocs"!

Until the show, I had never seen a white thirdgen Camaro that I liked. I've seen a couple here, one or two come to mind that I would kill for. When I saw that car at the show my jaw dropped. It looked so good! Yes, I like this white IROC and some others. But I do care what others think. I want others to like my car too, it's only natural. I'm not going to decide not to buy something if 80% of the people dont like it. As long as I like it I'm happy but it's nice knowing other people like your car
I'm looking around on autotrader right now and I HAVE decided that the price is a little high. I'm giong to call this guy in about 3 weeks. If he hasn't sold it, I'm going to offer him $5250, and if he wont take it, I'll go as high as $5500. If he still wont take it I'll give him my number so he can call me once he really needs to sell it.
I kinda also want an IROC droptop, a black 92 GTA droptop, and a pearl white 89 Formula 350 hardtop, so I just need to keep my eyes open!

i went to high school with a guy who had a 90 iroc. white exterior, painted with a pearlcoat type of paint (i think the color was "mother of pearl") and it had the gold 16" iroc wheels.
it looked sharp, although missing the gold iroc decals from the re-paint.

so buy it then =) but i could have got an 88 iroc z 350tpi for 3500. NOTHING was wrong with it, been stored for years and all it needed was tires. carpets didn't have a stain or a speck of dirt in them. like brand new. it was in a magazine. go for it if you want, but you can go buy a car for 1500 bucks and get a paint job and make it look just as nice =). my 2 cents

Like IROCs - Don't like white. Then again, if it's really sharp and you like it and feel that it's worth the price, what do I know? It does seem like a lot of money, but a well cared for car that needs next to nothing can be worth a little more. I'd do a careful test drive, and don't get too excited. If you can, have a neutral party look at it. That way, they may see problems that you may overlook in your enthusiasm. Good Luck.
also test out a few different cars cause my friend has an 86 and it's so much nicer to sit in then mine and i was excited to get one so i jumped into it.. but now mine is runnin nicly thanks to help from people on this messege board. you can get a 95-96 trans am for that amount and they are nice with the LT1's =)
I like the white....my current 88 sc is white........but I have the chance also to buy and 87 350 iroc with t-tops..it's blue with 83,000 miles and the girl is going to sell it for $3,400.00..not a bad deal....pulls 14.3 @ 93mph with slicks
Hey Blackwiddow if u buy this iroc are u sellin ur RS then? if so ill kick u in the nuts, since ur blakc RS is so fricken sweet and looks great. dont sell it just think to urself if u do and people want to see ur black RS and then u say oops damn i sold it. and since u get a crap load of compliments on ur black one (well from me) u shouldnt sell it. dont buythe IROC, just go get a 350 crate motor and build that up and drop it into the RS and then ull be able to beat that Iroc for less then what the guy is asking.

Thirdgens are one of the few cars that look good in white IMO. Especially IROC'S as they have contrasting black's everywhere emphasising the grills and lights. That white IROC someone posted a pic of in this thread is drop dead gorgeous. When I was looking for an IROC, I was actively looking for white or black... guess what I ended up with
It's paint is 2 weeks old? WOW.. That means nothing if under the rocker skirts is completely rusted out, or the floorpans are close to being extinct. There are reasons why people paint cars, and be extra weary since he painted and is selling it so soon! If you ask me, sounds like he gave it a quick coat to sell it to some youngin' who would look at it and be in awe.
And why would a perfectionist, that spends A LOT of time rebuilding a car (as perfectionists do) advertise it to sell it even before the paint has dried?
Im usually VERY weary of cars with "new" paint.. I would rather have a car that has paint 3-5 years old and in good condition. Because anything ugly would have reared its head already. With a new paint job, you never know when that bog in the rear 1/4 panel is going to fall off the car, or when that fiberglass repair is going to crack. Yes, you have to be skeptical when buying a car

1982chevycamaroz28,
Thanks for the compliments! I didn't know people liked my RS so much
No matter what the RS is getting a 350. Not sure what yet though, I was leaning towards the LT1 but I'm not sure. If I sell the RS it will be going to my girlfriend who is also a member here, and I would buy it back from her in a couple years. Cant lose.
The guy with the IROC said that he had all the ground effects taken off before paint. He also took off the side molding and stripes, but he replaced the IROC door decal. All the emblems and badges are new.
I think I'll call him and take a test drive (WITHOUT HIM IN THE CAR WITH ME) and I will TOTALLY check it out. If I like what I see I'll probably tell him $5500 take it or leave it. That is still less than I paid for my RS 3 years ago. I paid so much for the RS cause it needed nothing, it was showroom new. This IROC is abuot 90% showroom new from what I could tell.
Keep checking the boards, I'll post some pics of this car soon.
I like this IROC too but it has a 305, I want a 350. Nice looking car though!
