Freshening up PBR Calipers

Has anyone done anything special to clean up their PBR Calipers? I went to a sandblasting shop this evening.

They have a process called soda blasting. They blast with baking soda. The guy told me it would get the calipers nice and shiny. Almost a chrome like finish.

This would give me the option of leaving it alone or powdercoating it.. Any suggestions?

I was thinking of doing it on the spindles as well......

Comments please!

yes, but how would they hold up to the elements.... ?

i think it would look great.......there's always the option of powdercoating as well.

i've been contemplating the idea as well as i'm getting ready to order my baer kit.

show pics if you go through with it.

THE car is red..

As far as the elements, I would have to imagine it would hold up no differently than polished aluminum rims.

I asked the guy about powdercoating and he said if I want a polished aluminum look there will be no need to powdercoat.

The car will be wearing black crosslace gta rims. He quoted me 30 bucks a caliper to soda blast em. I think I may just go through with it and see how it comes out.. As long as it does not hurt the functionality I will have nothing to lose!.

If I get them powdercoated, I will need to rebuild the calipers as I am told the heating process will dry out the boots around the piston and cause them to crack.

What color would it be worth doing on a powdercoat..
If I powdercoat, I will just have them sand blasted and coated. Looking at 10 bucks a caliper for sand blasting and likely another 20 each for powdercoat.

I was thinking of saving myself the aggravation of rebuilding the calipers and going with the polished aluninum finish..

Any advice?

i either want red powder coat or polished.............? if i new the polished would hold up though it would be my first choice without a doubt as it really looks sweet.

Kandied91z,

Do you drive your car in rain or snow? Do you think it would be much different than polished aluminum rims? Explain your findings to me to help me make a good decision here!

that's exactly my point...........this car wouldn't go through those kind of things and if there was a chance it was caught it could be cleaned up i suppose. but....

polished wheels don't hold up they require maintenence and follow through leading to quite a bit of hassle to keep nice. now this also depends on the material. i'm not sure how the calipers would hold up over time and without seeing it in person it's hard to tell although the pictures with the new polished calipers are by far the best looking.

powdercoating on the other had typically holds up quite well if done correctly (which is hard not to do). in this case maybe monthly checkups to make sure they are clean and that's it.

i really need to talk to someone that has one of each to understand..........

try to find someone who has polished calipers and one who has powdercoated on here?

I have a polished PBR Caliper that has not been installed on the car. Also this is a rear PBR caliper from a 98 Camaro. I can get pics??
