Cowl Ind Hoods

Please post your cowl ind. hood and where you got it. I am going to get a cowl hood for tax season and I want to do my research first. I am really interested in one that uses existing hinges and has a 2" rise and has the rounded corners with a little extension towards the windshield. Can anyone help?

The cowl hood on my Firebird is a Harwood and is more like 3" tall at the cowl. It fits well and uses the stock hinges and latch.

I used a hood from Unlimited Products (www.up22.com) on my old Camaro and was also very happy. It is more of a 2" cowl and doesn't get significantly taller near the windshield like my Harwood does. It also used the stock hinges and latch. You'll just need to use some old "dead" hood struts that won't hold up a steel hood anymore but have enough left to hold up the fiberglass one.

Does Cerviney's have a web site? That is a good looking hood. It seems to have more of a slope than the one from Harwood. I know about Harwood and they are very reputable and I was going to get one from them if I can't find any better. I don't understand about the hinges though. I have brand new hinges on the stock hood. I know it is heavier but will it really make that much difference. Will the hood go flying up or something? Thanks.

P.S. I checked out up22.com and it has some really cheap prices.

Don't have one yet, but I think the 4" Harwood is the way to go:

disregard the Rustang and the Dodge....

Thanks for the valuable info on up22 I was wondering how they could offer a hood for $100 below everyone else. I guess you get what you pay for on that. Thanks.

If your brother had a pin-on style hood made by Cervini or Harwood, and he drove it without the pins in it... do you think it wouldn't fly up??? You can't blame Unlimited for your brother's mistake.

The Unlimited hood on my old Camaro was not the pin-on style, it was the style that uses the factory latch. It was nice and straight with little block sanding, but I did have to glass the inside edges where the outer skin bonds to the inner part. They left a little gap there and I wanted it smooth. But for the price difference, I would've bought an Unlimited hood for my Firebird if they made them.

HERE'S MINE

This is the Daytona Turbo from ASCD glass cowl hood. $550.00 shipped. I paid $100.00 plus painting. I got lucky and found it at a U pick it J Yard in perfect condition.

Opps, forgot the pic. Here it is.

BTW: I am using the factory supports. Remember you get what you pay for in glass hoods. cheaper hoods mean bad fits, poor locking and hard to paint. Don't scrimp on this item. the hood on our cars is a serious focal point and they say a lot about the owner.
