Factory sub box?

Was their ever a factory sub box in the hatch area of any third gens ? A friend told me that there was a sound package you could get with a new bird or camaro that included a custom sub box. Any truth to this, and if so, does anyone have pics of it ?

No truth to it in by my knowledge. The only real package that I know of was the Bose system. It did have little speakers inclosed in a box that held the amp, maybe this is what he was refering to. I wouldn't call it a sub box though. To use these speakers you have to have the head unit and vise versa. HTH

Was it in the back in the tire well? Also, what did it look like?

I know that the front speakers are on either kickpanel. If I remeber right the rears where inclosed in a cover that went over the trunk tray where you would put T tops down in the hole...so no they didn't go in the spare tire well. I personely don't have any pics. Someone here does...just who????? Anyone????

It was similar to the little plastic cargo cover lock panels that went across the well area, lil speakers inside, ported on the bottom.

Yeap. That's what I was talking about, but I have seen another style. That must be the one you are talking about Z28racer. I am interested in seeing this too.

Are you talking about 3rd gens or 4th gens? The way I read it you were asking about the new birds or camaros so I assume 4th gen. My roommates 96 Camaro did come with a factory sub in the rear. Its located on the drivers side of the rear trunk plastics around where the RPO codes are for our 3rd gens. It was a 10" sub.

The only one the 4th gen got was a 6.5" in a plastic box drivers side, so either you cant tell size, or he had a JL stealthbox

I dont usually use the holes cut into the plastics to guage the size of the speaker but in this case it looks like I should have. I just believed what he said. Go figgure.

Actually I was not referring to the 4th gen subs. I was referring to one similar to that in the picture but the one I saw seemed to have a plastic mold around it or something. It actually looked pretty sweet.
