There was a thread about this a little awhile ago, they also discussed what ghost flames really were, had plenty of pics in it

How do you plan on doing it, like a black with lighter black flames, or with chromolusion paint like alot of other black cars do?
I think it would look better without the chromolusion because that has been used too much, even though if i get my car flamed I'll use that paint, but not in the same way everyone else uses it

I do believe you can have them added at a later time over a clear coat. I say my shop doing that to a car few weeks ago.

I'm also pondering flames on my 89 Formula but IMHO they don't look as good on Birds as they do on Camaro's.

If I decide to do them, I am going to re shoot my Bird the original GM white then stencil and tape off the flames.

Mix pearl (color unknown) with clear then shoot the flames. Then remove the tape lines then clear the entire car.

The paint isn't that difficult it is just getting the flames to look as real as possible not like some pep boys spit and stick flames.
