Mods the gauges

Hi All...

I just picked up a set of LED gauge overlays for my 89 bird. Before I start to tear the dash apart to install them, I wanted to find out a little info first.

I would like to change the color of the needles. The light orange just doesn't cut it with a blue LED gauges set. Is there a way to modify the color of the needles either by changing the blubs to a different color? (I've never been in the dash so I don't know if they are colored bulbs or white bulbs with some kind of color shield in front of them). If possible, I would like to get a deep/bright red from the needles....like the color of a deep red LED.

Second, once I make the mods to the gauges, is there a way to change the color of the lights for the heater/AC controller and the light which lights of the headlight/dimmer switch?

Thanks...

-Mike

A lot of people remove the needles and paint them whatever color that they want. Where did you get LED gauges set from? You might want to paint it a faint color, but reflective/high gloss to get a bright shine on it at night, when the lights are on.

I got the gauge overlays from PROCARPARTS.COM.

I'm guessing that the needles are lit from behind the gauges themselfs and the light transfers through the needle rather then light being reflected off.

What kind of paint would allow such a change and still allow the needles to illuminate?

Thanks!

Macewen recommends TRIA (tm) brand markers or Prismacolor Alcohol Based Marker.

Here's a link to TRIA's for sale on the net:
