Show ways you have taken wieght from your car.
I would like to see what you all have done, if you have done any at all, to take wieght from the car, yet keep the stock appearance. I hope to chop a bunch of pounds from my car, but it must look no differant than it looks now. Thanks to all...
I heard somewhere about taking the front bumper cover support out and replacing it with a thin piece of angle stock. Its supposed to weigh like 45lbs.
You know the typical stuff so I'll just post unique ideals.
I also go rid of the carpet sound deadner, the rear seat lower cushions (invisible if you fold the upper rear seat down), and the power antenna for a stationary one. I got rid of the power seats and put manual 4th gens in. Thats all I can think of for right now...

i pulled my A/C that helped a lot. My sound deadener really weighted a LOT. Although everyone else said theirs didn't. Maybe mine was trapping moisture or something but it was easily 15-20 pounds.
I pulled out the heat and all defroster ducts until i can find a non A/C box from the junkyard.
I also removed the sway bars for a little while but i'm putting WS6 ones in since driving wasn't as much fun on the street for the benefits. Well there's a motor pic with no A/C or Heat on my new thread. Feedback DEFINATELY welcome.

Sorry, no pics. For stock appearance and 'some' weight savings, you might swap in the hollow 36 mm front sway, throw in an alum drive shaft and the so-called 1LE alum spare.

unless going chromolly the tubular member only knocks off a couple of lbs in the steel, quite alot for the price. sure looks cool though.
besides ripping out the ac and emissions there isn't a whole lot.
you could go with a brake setup that uses aluminum 2 piece rotors. that will knock off roughly 3-4 lbs of rotating mass off each wheel and add a lighter driveshaft like the aluminum or carbon fiber to knock off 10-12 lbs as well. those will make the most street difference as it's the rotating mass that gets you.
100lbs for every .1 isn't worth stripping important things like seats and the like. unless your in contention and then you wouldn't be asking.
personally though i'd go with the rotating mass before anything as it makes the most difference.

And one more...
Also note the clearance between the oil pan and cross tube. You should be able to drop the pan without jacking the motor. Motor mount swaps are a breeze now but I changed mine while the K member is out.

I'd love to do something like that to mine. IIRC QwkTrip did that same k member (Chromoly though) and it shaved off ~35lbs. So I'll bet you shaved at least 28-30lbs off yours.
Other tricks to take off weight are aluminum heads. Stockers weigh about 40lbs each bare, and aluminums usually weigh about 28lbs each.
I saw one guy gut a factory size battery, cut out the bottowm and shoved a DynaBat in there. It looked completely stock. Your battery weighs about 35lbs. The DynaBat weighs 13lbs.
Doing those two things will take off another ~45lbs.
Headers are normally lighter than stock manifolds, albeit not a lot.
Aluminum radiators are worth a few pounds. Maybe 3-5lbs?
PLUS....... Get a hair cut, trim your nails, wear low cut tennis shoes, take a dump, and loose all your pocket change.

Every little bit helps.

Have you read this yet? https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/t...ngpounds.shtml The total weight lose after doing all thats stated in this article is 275 lbs.
You need to focus on the stuff that moves to save the weight....
Also i did the following stuff...
Removed Heater (core, hoses, etc)
Removed spare tire stuff
That's about it....
www.vfnfiberglass.com
They have STOCK fiberglass parts for the camaro....pricey, but going fast and looking good cost money......

You could always get an Aftermarket Fiberglass Hood.....they way alot less then the stock metal hoods.....
if your going to use them for daily driving i wouldn't go with anything other than the steel. even they say so. it would probably be fine for a cruiser although a car that is a true daily driver i wouldn't think you would want to spend that kind of money. but to each his own, definately looks killer.

Throw out the computer and all unecessary wiring, (that is, if you have or plan on bypassing the computer.)
Oh and FLYNLOW92rs, I would hate to be you stuck on the side of the road with a flat tire.

From the factory my car has manuel windows and locks, no power antenna, but I have taken out the AC compressor, AC cooler(in front of radiator), removed all emissions stuff (AIR, EGR), aluminum intake manifold, fiberglass hood, removed jack and spare, taken out computer and wiring harness. Thats all I can think of right now.
