Hi Everybody

Hi Everybody,

I just wanted to let you guys know I am here for advice. I have been a professional detailer for 15 years and have seen nearly every problem known to man in relation to cars. I have also created problems, LOL, but have learned from some of the best professionals and am here to pass on that knowledge to you.

I WILL NOT endorse any products. But, like everybody I do have my favorites.

However I have used nearly every product known to man and offer you tips on maximizing your efforts on products you use as well as an array of tips for maximizing your efforts on your car overall.

I prefer not to reveive PM's related to car care because I think that if you have a problem everybody could benefit from your experience. However, if you have a problem that you are too embarassed about we can handle it in PM's and then I can post your question without crediting the red-faced individual.

My intentions do not include taking over the board or re-inventing the wheel, I only want to enhance your knowledge. My philosophy is something handed down to me from my dad: "There's never time to do it right, but always time to do it again". I hope to help you do it right THE FIRST TIME.

Welcome to the board. Like you said, detailing is a matter of personal preference. There's a tough crowd out there. Detailing is a kind of religious ceremony that people take seriously. But just like religion, beliefs are different. Thanks for the info, and if I ever need assistance, I'll be sure to let ya know. Again, Welcome to the boards.

I like your dad's way of thinking Welcome to the site.

edit: I thought of a ? to ask...I have a dull spot, possibly from some oil contaminent on one of my plastic hatch panels. Is there anything way to buff the luster back into the plastic? Shine spray is the only way to hide it...I even have what appears to be glue that ran from behind the anniv badge on my dash and marred the surface as well. Any suggestions on that too?

Hey, Welcome to the board!! Since you're here, I'll ask my question....

One of my family members (nobody will own up to it) spilled what looks like motor oil on top of my car, on the paint. Not my TA, but my beater Mustang. There's a lot of it there, and I would like to know: what the is best stuff to get it off of there? How would I go about removing it? Any ideas?

Step 1: Get as much of it up as you can with a towel (MicroFiber or 100% Cotton).
Step 2: Clean up the rest with 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner
Step 3: Clay
Step 4: Re-Wax
Step 5: Ground everybody, even your wife, until somebody owns up to it.

first off
WELCOME to this wonderfull comunity
now i have a ?
I installed a set of 4th gen leather charcoal seats out of a 95 z 28 t top car into my 89 iroc t top and have noticed that the leather is supportive, but a little hard. i was wondering what you would suggest to use to soften them up. i have already used a leather cleaner, and a leather conditioner. i also went out and bought a bottle of meguiers (sp) leather treatment and put one coat of that on there. all that has helped, but i still would like to get them softer.

thanks for your help

I suggest you go for Lexol pH Leather Cleaner and Connolly HideFood. I posted that on a few forums and have received nothing but praise. Connolly is a leather creme that feeds the leather rather than coating it like you many other products out there. When you finish your seats should feel supple. You did say that your seats are 7 years old and may not have been cared for very well in the past so you may need to spread 3 or 4 applications over a 2 week period to return them to their original condition. Then maintain the leather with the HideFood every 2 - 3 months and clean every 4 - 6 months. (i.e. feed 2 then clean and feed 4)

Thanks man! I'll try what you suggested when I can and let you know how it goes. My internet's been off for the last couple days so I haven't been able to post - sorry for the late reply. And as far as grounding my family, that's not gonna happen, lol! I was at my parents' house visiting when this happened (I'm in school full time) and I suspect one of my bro's did it. Nobody will say who it was though. I have no "grounding powers" there, heh. At least it was my beater - if my TA got spilled on, heads would be rolling!

Hey, welcome. Its always good to know that there is a detailing veteran that I can throw a question or two at. My thirdgen isn't that nice, parts of it are, but not the car as whole. I don't have any questions now, but I might have some at another time.

Welcome,

What's your favorite wax in your many years experience?

I prefer Formula 113.

Hmmm.

I've only tested Formula 113 and not actually used it for an extended period of time. But it works as marketed. Glad to hear you like it. The guy that runs the company is a very hard working guy. I've seen some cars with F113 on it and they looked excellent. I've also seen some cars that it was on and it looked like crap because the person who was using was not using it properly. Which is really why I am here: Help everybody get the maximum out of the products they use. And if they get into trouble with some surface scratches, oxidization, door dings, rock chips talk them through the process of safely repairing the damage.

I extensively use 3M products, but combine them with an array of products. The key is surface preparation. Which I will get into with a few posts.
