When I had my 84.....it had a stock Metal hood on it too.....I'm not sure if this is correct of not....but I think the fiberglass hoods were only offered on the 82 and 83 Z28's......this is just a guess..so....please....don't chew my head off if I'm wrong..lol..

When I purchased my 1984 Camaro, what I really loved about her was the hood. It was one I hadn't seen very often, the louverless fake cowl one. What I would like to know is whether the RS had it as well?
I've seen a couple z28's with that particular hood, but only one RS, and it could have been a swap for all I know. Besides that, I've been looking to replace the missing decals on my car, but don't know which ones to use.

I am pretty sure that, that style hood only came on the 82-84 z28's. They only came in fiberglass in 82-83 and in 84 they swithced to steel. I know that you can find the fiberglass ones on ebay every once and awhile. However, The swap to the fiberglass version of this hood is a popular thing to do especially if you autocross and it is getting harder to find them.

The fiberglass hoods (GM called it "Sheet Molded Compound" I believe) came with all of the 82 Z28s. In 83 the only engine to get the hood was CFI. Both years only CFI had the functional hood flaps. In '84, the CFI engine was scrapped and so was the fiberglass hoods.

Hey 84customz28, now I'm interested in those hood decals. What exactly are they? email me @ kbeezbmx(at)yahoo.com if you got a pic or something.
And also, I have the fiberglass hood. I made a topic asking if I could run louvers (I can't find it now, maybe got deleted or what?) and I found out you couldn't. Now, if I don't have a ram air setup, how should I plug up the holes?
and do you guys the f-glass hood would look/work good with the 91-92 gfx?
thanks for any help!!

Hey is that the same hood that meridius and mw66nova posted? They look way different, but it may just be an optional illusion of the camera angle.
Anyways, I have a steel and a glass hood that look just like the pic miridius posted. But mine have gaps inside the scoops. I guess for the ram air.... I guess I'll have to try and find those plugs or make my own or something cause I don't want my EFI getting wet.....
I really want a cowl, but heck, I got a fiberglass z28 hood for free so I guess I'll use it instead of spending half a grand on a new one

that is the functional CFI hood, those are even more rare then mine, which is not functional.
hood
I have a an '83 Z-28 with the stock CFI, and functional hood flaps. Those flaps really give a kick in the pants when you stomp the pedal. Does anyone have any production numbers for this car? I figure it should be pretty rare in a few years cause everyone scraps their CFI for a carb.
I have a pic of my hood before I started ground up resto. not a very good angle, but maybe this helps.

The functional fiberglass hoods were for 82-83 Z-28's only with CFI. After CFI was gone, so were the functional hoods. Not sure if there was NON functional fiberglass hoods for those years.

hood
KBeez: What engine do you have, do you still have the CFI?
If you still have CFI, look at the inside of the hood and see if there is a rubber seal around the openings, kind of looks like weatherstripping. If you have that, why would you want to put something in the scoop to plug it up when you would have a form of ram air right there?
If you are really concerned with getting the flaps that go in the spot, I have seen the whole assembly on ebay for like $20. You could also visit your local junkyard.
If you dont have CFI, you could rig up some ducting to your carb, or just get a different hood scoop to put over the existing one.
I dont know how you would just fill in the holes in the hood. If you didnt want to use them, I would just go to the junkyard and pick up a different hood.
Also, if your car is daily driver, that would make a difference.

ummm... what exactly is CFI?
I got an '88 S/C, not a tpi or anything, as the original 305 was taken out and replaced with a 350. and after I bought it, the guys like, "wait, I have this hood too for it" and pulled out the z28 fiberglass hood. So, I can't really run a nice ram air setup with this hood unless I tried to make one and my dad suggested not to.
I then got an 84 z28 for way cheap for parts, and it had the same hood, only steel.
Maybe I could fill it in before I paint it. Or maybe put plexiglass in it, or maybe even put in some led's in there, or something hehe.
It is a daily driver as well, but I don't see a big deal in having ram air, anyways. It would be cool to find a way to let air in through the hood, but not let water get in..... any suggestions/ideas?
thanks!!

rewind: if theres a seal underneath the hood, and the louvers have "flaps" then yes. K: CFI= Cross Fire Injection??? Im sure someone will chime in with more details on that type of fuel system. As for how to get the flaps to work, u have to use a solenoid or something similar to work in conjunction with your intake. Good description of how to do this is found in this link http://home.att.net/~ops32cars/transam24.html He uses a power door lock and some ingenuity to make it work. Ram Air on Demand. I found it when I was considering keeping my TBI. Good luck, Efrain.
.
rewind: Yes that is the hood. They were only made in '82 and '83 so if yours came on an '87 it was switched on there.

I had an 84, steel hood as well. Stay away from fiberglass hoods... they only fuel engine fires! lol, but if you aren't worried about that, def. worth the weight loss.
