quick wheel polishing question

I'm just starting to polish my wheels. I'm using 150 to get the clear-coat off. Should i sand with the machine grooves or against them?

i sanded with them, BUT if your trying to sand off the clear it will take u alot longer. it would work better if you just bought some aircraft stripper from walmart and sprayed some of that on there to strip off the clear coat and the paint then use the sand paper to polish them up.

I found starting with 80 grit helped.

I used the 80 grit too. It takes the clear and rough casting off in no time depending if your using power tools or by hand though. Are you polishing the 5 star rims or Irocs? Here's a pic of my 5 star rim I love to show off

I would sand against the machine grooves. Plain and simple.

If you use the Aircraft stripper, you had better mask off the painted portion of the wheels. Thats if you dont plan on re-painting the inserts of the wheels. 80 grit sand paper will work fine for taking off the clear coat, and probably faster, if you have a an electric sander of some sort.

Those look sweet as hell (although I hear Hell ain't very sweet)

I like those 100 times better than the chrome ones. You still have the stock black lines between the spokes. The chrome ones don't and they make the wheel look naked.

You did a good job. I like.
