I just sent him this huge email about packing! I'm going to talk to Hawk's and probably have him call the guy. Last thing I need is it to come in pieces.

Wow my day has been made. Praying does work!

i see some people don't read all the post. or search but let me enlighten u.
1. factory notches are almost nonexistant
2. no one who is active on tgo has one
3. again they are rare to begin with.
4 . the black one is just about the same as factory with a removable window.

here is the pic and hopefully redraif will be able to get it reproduced.

I dont think it affects it at all. u'll have a bit less trunk space on the flat part and if u hit it hard on the gas ur frineds may hit there heads on the lil window. hehehe

I would if truck frieght was not so much...I will do what he (Bruce) thinks is best. I plan to go there before the end of march to pick up a rearend, so I can get good pics for every one. I'm sure there is a car Bruce and I can set it on for pics.

I do not think it is a factory one, but it is styled very similar looking at the pic... The main difference is the removable glass. Also I noticed the one I got has the nubbies on it like our glass hatches where it hinges and attaches to the body.

Nice GTA notch above!

See most of the aftermarket one i have seen have the sides made to tall. they still seem to follow the line of the glass. This one is the first i ahve seen that does not. It seens to be made with very similar sides to that of the original. I know in the late 80 early 90s there were a few companies that made notchs. Besides Motion and the Trojan version! I can only assume this is an aftermarket one based on a factory one, with a few changes!

The notch is being sent directly to Hawks, so hopefully it won't be long til they're available. We're going up there in a couple weeks so we'll get some good pictures of it (maybe stick it on a parts car so you can see how it will look). I can't say for sure what pricing will be. I'm really curious to see if this is a modified factory notch, or aftermarket...either way, its the first one I have seen for sale that looks good IMHO. I like the idea of a removable rear window, too...should work out great on Redraif's 82 TA, which is going to have a targa roof already. Should be about as close to a convertible as you can get, without the hassles!

Custom cage. Im pretty sure about that. Unless you want to drill holes in the glass and decklid to put a regular one in

Yeah, its going to require that the downbars go down at a steep angle, go straight back over the hump, and down into the framerail. Nothing is ever simple with custom stuff!

Hopefully it will be to Hawks soon and we can figure out if its a modified original (I don't think the original had a removable rear window), or a close copy. Its pretty hard to tell from the pictures. I'm hoping somone at the STARS show this weekend will have an original notchback we can take some detailed pictures of to compare.

the factory notchbacks did not have a hinging window. it was a solid mount as far as i can tell.

As for the guy with the real nothcback- i need you to get me some pics if you can. My friend bought a factory hatch that i found for him (they only made 624, happened that a friend of mine had one for sale), and has it intstalled on his gta, BUT - few questions.

We cannot figuer out the strut connections, and 2nd, we need to see if there is a different seal for the hatch.

for the struts, we need some pics, so if you can get us some that would be very good- email me- soares711@yahoo.com

thanx man!

Steve

Accually the rear seats in notchbacks are slightly taller than normal TA rear seats so youre friends wont hit there heads on the glass. If you have a factory notchback that is. Ill get some pics taken of the back seats as soon as i can but for now ill just show you guys a pic of my notchback.

The notchback arrived at Hawks yesterday, and Bruce said it looked great. His fiberglass guy will be looking at it soon . We'll be visiting Hawks probably a week form Saturday (the 29th) to check it out, and get a few other things.

Bruce was very impressed with it. Said we will have to do some lookng around to be able to repro all the weather strip and hardware, but he sounded confident! He is not sure that the back glass will not leak, but when we go up there we are going to test it and see. Don't work i will take photos galore.

He is going to meet with his glass guy soon and see what its going to take to do the job...I will let you know what happens!

ya know, this somewhat reminds me of the notchback kit that wasoffered and then discontinued some time ago by year one i believe.

The removable window, and the factory notch look were all features of it. Anyone know who/ if somone made it for year one?

I'm pretty sure it wasn't involved with Year One. I used to work for them (actually worked there twice), when the Next Generation thing started up. They did do the 4th gen kammback (stationwagon) hatch with Hurst, but to my knowldege they never did anything like that for a thirdgen.

That's the plan. I think it would be a pretty cool feature to have (like a Del Sol).

At this point, we can't honestly say. The fiberglass guy is looking at it first, and after we get the estimated cost from him, we'll have to source hardware, the rear window, weatherstrip, etc to make it a complete, no-hassle bolt on deal. I would think we could make it competitive with other notch kits on the market, though.

I have seen those rear seats before, but I know at least once it wasn't in a notchback...maybe in a TTA also? The factory notchbacks I have seen had those rear seats though. Thanks for the pics.
